Amazon Prime's Fallout show finally has a release date, as a new teaser trailer reveals it will premiere on April 12, 2024. New details also claim that it will be canon to the games, suggesting it could be an entirely new story in the Fallout universe instead of an adaptation of one of the games.

In a short teaser trailer, this premiere date is revealed with Pip-Boy graphics straight out of Fallout 4. There isn't much info to glean from it, outside of the obvious release date reveal, and we don't get a shot of any of the actors. However, with the new year fast approaching, this is likely a sign that the first trailer isn't far off, particularly since we know the show has been in the works since 2020.

We still don't know what period the show will be set in, or which game it will draw the most inspiration from. Yet leaked sets have shown us locations from Fallout 3 and 4, as well as the Vaults. Given what we've seen so far, it certainly seems to be leaning more towards the Bethesda games, as opposed to the originals or Fallout: New Vegas.

Alongside this release date reveal, further details on the project were shared by The Wrap. Here, it's reported that the Fallout show will be "part of the canon of the games", as opposed to adapting the stories of the games to work with television. This likely means we're getting an original story, since using the narrative of any of the games would require changes that alter the canon. That said, Bethesda is certainly no stranger to messing with Fallout canon wherever it sees fit, so who knows what we'll get with Amazon distributing the show.

Now that we have a release date, the show also has an official Twitter account. Hopefully, this means we'll get some new details soon, and won't have to keep overanalysing teaser trailers and behind-the-scenes snaps.

However, despite today's excitement, there is still cause for concern. Some feel that Amazon is a poor choice for Fallout, given the games' repeated takedown of American capitalism, presenting conglomerates as a driving force behind the nuclear war. But Amazon Prime is no stranger to its shows critiquing its business practices, as The Boys has shown throughout its run. Another issue raised was the apparent use of AI art in a poster for the show, leading some to fear that the production was replacing creatives with bots.

We'll have to wait and see if the Fallout show is worth the hype when it launches on Amazon Prime next year.
