It was an incredibly ambitious project, aiming to take players out of the US and into the arid deserts of Mexico for the first time. It also promised to provide custom backgrounds for your characters, something that Fallout fans sick of the Vault intros have wanted for a while, and throw playable Ghouls into the mix too. Basically, everything Fallout fans wanted.

Unfortunately, unlike Fallout: London, it seems as though Fallout: Nuevo Mexico will never see the light of day. That's because the team behind the project has decided to cancel it entirely, as announced on the project's official Discord earlier today.

Fallout: Nuevo Mexico DLC-Sized Mod Cancelled By Developer

The announcement, made by Zapshock, explains that while they and their team distatic.aayyy.com/topic/dn/'t want to cancel the project, they had to "prioritize my mental health and face reality." According to Zapshock, the team working on the project decided that the "financial and personal" costs were far too great to continue, and that the workload they were faced with was "enormous".

"Continuing forward simply isn't sustainable for me and everyone else, voice actors included."

Next, Zapshock thanks everyone who has been along with the team for the ride, expressing gratitude for everything "from the kind words, the feedback, the excitement, to just believing in what we were trying to create". They also ask for understanding over the cancelation, and that they will "always cherish" the time they spent working on the project.

This is obviously gutting for anyone of you looking forward to the project's release, but I think we can all agree that it's best to scrap it than soldier forward at the cost of the developers themselves. Just like the cancelation of Earthblade earlier this month, it sucks to see a promising indie project get scrapped due to issues out of their control, but here's hoping the Nuevo Mexico devs are more successful with whatever they plan to do next.
