Summary

  • It has been 65 years since the release of the first Barbie doll, and Funko wants to celebrate that.
  • The Pop! creators have done that by turning three of Barbie's most iconic dolls into Pop! figures.
  • The trio of new Pops includes Astronaut Barbie, and also Totally Hair Barbie which remains the best-selling Barbie doll ever.

Barbie has been around for 65 years, but you wouldn't know by looking at her. One of the few advantages of plastic taking a very long time to deteriorate is Barbie looks as shiny and new now as she did when first introduced to the masses in 1959. Even more so actually since new dolls have replaced the old ones continuously ever since. Particularly now following on from the success of 2023's Barbie movie. Barbie's reach has extended beyond dolls alone in the toy world too as Funko has revealed three new 65th anniversary figures.

Barbie isn't new to the Funko Pop! world and there are already several official figures of her and Ken available. However, outside of the handful created to celebrate the release of last year's movie, this is the first time in a long time that Funko has released new Barbie Pops. Three new figures have been revealed, two of which are already available to pre-order on Amazon with a listing for the third set to be added very soon (thanks, Funko Pop News).

The three Barbie figures joining her Funko collection are Totally Hair Barbie, Astronaut Barbie, and Crystal Barbie. The Totally Hair and Crystal Pops are the ones you can pre-order right now on Amazon. The figures are $12.99 each and set to release on June 17, so not long to wait. Since the new collection has been created to celebrate 65 years since the release of the first Barbie doll, each of the Pops is inspired by an iconic doll from the toy's extensive collection.

Three New Barbie Funko Pops For The Doll's 65th Birthday

Totally Hair Barbie was released in 1992 and has a special place in Barbie history for a couple of reasons. The doll had longer hair than any other Barbie to have come before it, but it was its popularity that cemented its spot in the history books. Making $100 million, Totally Hair Barbie remains the highest-grossing Barbie doll of all time. You have to go back almost another decade for the release of Crystal Barbie, and the first-ever Astronaut Barbie was released in 1965 so pre-dates the Moon Landing.

Barbie's Funko Pops will join Mattel's Mini BarbieLand collection as the doll continues to have a busy 2024, riding the wave generated by her hit movie. The BarbieLand collection is effectively a Barbie crossover with Polly Pocket. While Polly is nowhere to be seen, the miniature dolls that come with the sets are reminiscent of the ones included with Polly Pocket toys.
