There are some enemies in Elden Ring that are absolutely worth farming. Trolls, for example, are relatively easy to kill and provide thousands of runes as a reward for your efforts. But there are some enemies that offer a few piddly runes while also representing a massive risk to any Tarnished that wants to continue breathing.

According to Reddit user AlfalfaBorn8535, the Runebears are the Elden Ring enemies that are just “not worth killing.” And they’ve got a point: Runebears are extremely aggressive, extremely powerful foes that’ll knock Tarnished off of Torrent and then maul them to death with their massive claws. Even escape can be difficult as Runebears have long-range projectiles that they spew from their mouths.

Even if you manage to kill a Runebear, you typically only get a few hundred runes for your trouble and maybe some gold-tinged excrement--not exactly a huge incentive to go toe-to-toe with an angry magic bear.

At least, not until you figure out the Runebear’s one weakness: crotch-diving. Whenever the Runebear rears up to attack, just dodge-roll toward its crotch. There’s a safe area right between the Runebear’s rear-most legs where Tarnished can hack away with impunity. Just stay there and the Runebear can’t touch you. It still might not be worth your time to tangle with a Runebear, but at least you’ll be able to safely dispatch one.

Other enemies Elden Ring players have deemed unworthy of combat include the Revenant and its many slapping hands, the Giant Crayfish and their armored hides, and Dragonflies, for being annoying pests that are just a pain in the ass to target. Land Octopuses and those giant flowers simply have too much health to chew through to bother with, and Caelid’s crows and decaying dogs are likewise more trouble than they’re worth. Yes, they all have weaknesses, but is it really worth the risk or the effort?
