Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree - Furnace Golem Boss Guide

Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree touts an infamous design in the Furnace Golem, a boss seen from the moment you step into the main DLC area. But much like the Tree Sentinel, just because you can see the boss does not necessarily translate to being ready for the boss.

Here is how you can find every Nameless Mausoleum in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.
PostsTanky and hard-hitting, this slow monstrosity will punish players who unwittingly decide to take on this behemoth before they're acquainted with the new leveling systems in the DLC. You'll want to be fully prepared for these golems before you go trouncing in, high in confidence after your defeat of Mohg, Lord of Blood. Thankfully, this guide is part of the process.
How To Prepare For Furnace Golems
There are several Furnace Golems littered about the Lands of Shadow. While most follow the same pattern, you'll find that later variations of this boss will feature legs with unbreakable armour for added difficulty.
But before we get ahead of ourselves, you'll want to make the following preparations:
- Find a Revered Spirit Ash (or several) to level up Torrent.
- Equip the Flamedrake Talisman +1 or greater for Fire resistance.
- Have Rowa Fruit handy for healing Torrent.
- Equip throwable items such as the Hefty Fire Pot , and ranged Fire spells such as Flame Sling , or Fire Arrows .
- Find Scautree Fragments to increase the damage of your thrown items.
- If you're throwing items, equip the Smithing Talisman .
The pattern here is featured around protecting and bolstering Torrent or increasing the viability of thrown items. Furnace Golems are meant to be horseback battles or thrown-item battles.
Where To Find Furnace Golems
These golems are typically an easy find thanks to their gargantuan size and burning flames.

The Hefty Fire Pot can be crafted by the Furnace Visage, awarded by defeating Furnace Golems.
Furnace Golem Attacks And Combos
Each of these golems has a very similar and limited moveset.
In general, the best way to deal with these attacks is to move on Torrent, but even having his speed will not change your need to remember the moves in the table below:
Attack Name
Attack Description
Suggested Counter
Flaming Stomp
The golem lifts a single foot, lighting it aflame, and stomps its foot on the ground. The impact releases an immediate explosion and then a wave of fire over a greater area.
It can slightly turn while its foot is lifted to track the player, and this attack can be followed by up to three additional stomps alternating between feet.
As you see the foot rise, keep your distance slightly. The initial explosion cannot be easily dodged. When the foot lands, jump on Torrent and then reach for an attack while remaining wary of follow-ups.
Swipe
The golem falls to one knee and swipes the area in front of it in a large fan.
As the golem begins to kneel, rush behind the golem and stay away from its sides to avoid being caught in its back-swipe.
Fire Punch
The golem's hand lights aflame and, as it kneels, it punches the ground to release a small wave of fire.
As the golem kneels, ensure that you are behind it.
Kick
The golem suddenly kicks a foot forward.
This move is relatively rare and a bit hard to see in the moment. It is best avoided by not triggering it in the first place, staying behind the golem as much as possible.
Flaming Jump
Both of the golem's feet light aflame, and it launches itself straight up in the air. As it crashes back down, it creates an immediate explosion, then a wave of fire, and several pieces of debris fly at great range.
When you see the feet light aflame, begin racing away but not too far. Stay within a distance where you can make one long jump back to the golem. When it lands, jump toward the golem and prepare to strike anew.

Throwable items
There are two possible strategies for facing the Furnace Golems:
- Fight them on Torrent.
- Fight them via thrown items or spells.
If you encounter a Furnace Golem with armour on its legs, you will be forced to take the second option. Otherwise, the choice is yours (though the second is often faster).
The option of throwing items typically takes very little skill and, in some cases, can end the fight when throwing even two to three Hefty Fire Pots at the golem's weak spot, the head basket.
To increase the effectiveness of throwing items, keep in mind that:
- The golem is, surprisingly, weak to Fire damage (we know, right?).
- The Smithing Talisman and Scadutree Fragments can increase your throwing damage.
- You should always try throwing items from the high ground where possible to ensure accuracy.
If you want even more Hefty Fire Pots, you can try looting the required Furnace Visages from already defeated Furnace Golems at the Ruins of Unte.
If you attempt to take things the longer route via a battle on Torrent, things get a little messier.
In general, you'll want to follow these guidelines:
- Try using a Fire-infused weapon in your weapon hand.
- Stay as much behind the Furnace Golem as possible.
- Do not attempt to stay near the stomping fire feet during their initial impact; you'll be caught in a blast.
- Debris from the Fire Jump attack will sometimes hit you, even during a successful jump.
- Most importantly, stance-breaking golems, if they are wearing spiked armour around their feet, takes far, far longer than without.
As long as you are patient and well-prepared, you'll manage these Furnace Golems just fine with some practice.
Your reward will always include a Crystal Tear for your Wondrous Physick mixes, making it well worth the hassle. So get to putting out some baskets, Tarnished.
