Elden Ring Shadows Of The Erdtree Release Is "Still A Little Ways Off"

Elden Ring's lead producer, Yasuhiro Kitao, has revealed in a recent interview that the release of the Shadows of the Erdtree DLC is "still a little ways off".
As great a year as 2023 has been for video games, it's been a bit of a torturous wait for Elden Ring fans. Right at the very start of the year, FromSoftware confirmed the name of the first big expansion for the game, Shadow of the Erdtree, and shared a piece of concept art for it that seems to show Miquella and possibly even Torrent.

PostsSince that initial reveal, we've seen literally nothing of the expansion and have no idea what it's going to entail. Well, it looks like we're going to have to keep waiting a little while longer for news on the expansion, as Elden Ring's lead producer, Yasuhiro Kitao, has confirmed in a recent interview that the DLC is still "a little ways off".
As pointed out by ResetEra user Angie, Kitao confirmed that the DLC isn't quite ready yet during an interview at the PlayStation Awards. When asked how development on the DLC is progressing, Kitao said, "I will talk about the DLC another time. It's still a little ways off, but progress is going well. Like Bloodborne, it has new battles and characters. Please look forward to new things."
Kitao mentioning Bloodborne might have just made some of you start hyperventilating since it's such a random nod, but it's worth noting that he's speaking at the PlayStation Awards, so it might just be a nice way to mention FromSoft's PlayStation exclusive.
From Kitao's comments, it seems that Shadows of the Erdtree isn't going to be coming until a bit later into 2024, dashing the hopes of anyone hoping for a shadow drop before the end of the year. At least we now know that development on the project is going well, and that it's apparently going to be like Bloodborne in some way.
A lot of Elden Ring fans have been pinning their hopes on Shadows of the Erdtree making some kind of appearance at The Game Awards next month, which still does seem likely even with Kitao's comments. The DLC might not be nearing its release date, but it has been nearly a year since it was announced, so showing a trailer for it on the stage where the game originally won Game of the Year makes some sense.
