Taking guard in front of the Stormveil Castle Legacy Dungeon's entrance, you must beat him to gain entrance. While there's no shortage of difficult enemies in Limgrave, Margit is the toughest boss you'll fight at the beginning of your playthrough.

Margit is a major difficulty spike from the bosses you've fought before. We recommend that you level up a few times and get your weapon to +2 before facing this boss. Getting some good spirits and maybe even a co-op partner isn't a bad idea, as Margit's attacks are difficult to read.

Similar to the bosses you've fought before, Margit is susceptible to critical hits once his poise is broken, so a flurry of melee attacks or heavy jump attacks can stagger him with ease. It's also possible to bleed Margit, removing large chunks of his health bar when his bleed gauge is filled.

Margit, The Fell Omen Attacks

Margit gives little room for recovery throughout this fight. His attacks are relentless and somewhat tough to predict, yet his slow windups and overhead swings allow you to reposition or counterattack. Take advantage of the elevation differences in the arena, and use your Spirit Ashes to turn the tide.

Here's everything Margit can throw your way.

Margit, The Fell Omen Attacks

Dagger Attacks

Margit's primary source of attacks comes from the glowing blade they summon. They use their blade to unload tons of attack combos on you in rapid succession, which can range from 2 hits to 3 to an entire sequence of spinning attacks that will annihilate you if it catches you off guard. There are also a few instances where Margit will hesitate, baiting you into making an impatient move, and then lighting you up right after.

Counter: Remain calm and wait for an opening, but don't get greedy.

Staff Attacks

The second primary way Margit will attack you is via their large staff, but in a way you may not be anticipating. Rather than casting spells on you or hurtling magic at you, Margit elects to swing the large staff at you, dealing massive damage if it connects.

Counter: Each swing with the staff is slow and cumbersome, allowing you to telegraph them relatively easily and quickly get out of the way.

Charge Attack

Any time you see Margit charging in for an attack, they will perform two large swing attacks, with the first one typically being well-telegraphed and easy to dodge. In contrast, the second one is a bit off-paced.

Counter: During the second swing, roll through the attack. This will give you a decent window to punish the boss.

Throwing Daggers

In addition to his staff, Margit also wields a glowing dagger that they use in a few ways. He'll huck it across the arena at you or throws it from point-blank range as a way to end one of their exhaustingly long combo chains. The greater the distance between you and them, the more likely they are to throw their dagger.

Counter: Bait the attack from range and roll. For melee builds, roll right after Margit finishes a combo.

Phase 2 Attacks

Hammer Swing

Margit will make a long telegraph before making a giant horizontal swing of his hammer, which will knock you down on contact and deal tons of damage. After the telegraph, the energy surrounding Margit will explode into the hammer, followed immediately by the attack. This attack will happen when you're typically in close range of Margit, and it can be chained with his jumping hammer attack.

Counter: When Margit begins this attack, you will see a small collection of energy manifesting beside Margit. Use this telegraph to time your dodges.

Jumping Hammer Strike

Margit will jump high into the air and come hurtling to the ground with a forceful slam, causing you to fall if you're too close to the shock wave. This attack deals massive damage. Margit will typically perform this attack if he's far away from you or immediately after the initial hammer swing from his other attacks.

Counter: Wait until Margit leaps into the air before evading the attack. Margit's recovery gives you a moment to damage him.

How To Beat Margit, The Fell Omen

Melee and ranged builds will need to rely on different tactics to overcome this boss. Regardless of your build, it's recommended that you summon spirits and have a shield handy. Margit's onslaught of attacks makes them tough to dodge during your first few attempts. Use a shield to tank some of the hits to get a better idea of his attack patterns and telegraphs.

Regardless of which strategy you use, consider obtaining Margit's Shackle to force a DPS window during this fight. You can use this item twice per boss attempt.

Physical Attack Recommendations

Shields with good physical and magic resistance are recommended if you're not comfortable dodging attacks yet. Weapons that deal rapid slashes or heavy attacks—scimitars, twinblades, and greatswords are solid options—can break Margit's posture quickly, leaving him open to a critical hit.

The Reduva Daggeralso works wonders against Margit. If you have the stats to wield it properly, rely heavily on its Blood Blade Skill. The Blood Blade will launch sharp blades of blood at your target, filling up Margit's Bleed Meter. Once it's filled, he will lose a large chunk of his health.

Magical Attack Recommendations

Casters have it rough for this fight. It's recommended to bring a shield and at least a group of spirits. Lone Wolves and Godrick Knights work great for this fight. You can also summon a sorcerer NPC (named Rogier) near the entrance to Magrit's arena, should you need more assistance.

Let your spirits take the brunt of Margit's attacks as you pelt at the boss with your spell or ranged weapon of choice. Even with help, stay on your toes; the boss can easily leap on top of you at any moment.
