You Might Want To Take The Elden Ring Movie News With A Grain Of Salt

Summary
- Yesterday, a news story went viral claiming that an Elden Ring movie is in development at A24, with Alex Garland signed on to direct.
- It's probably bogus, since the site doesn't have the best track record for its 'exclusives', and with the story being taken down shortly after publishing.
- That being said, George R. R. Martin did hint that there are "talks" about an Elden Ring movie.
Yesterday, a website called Nexus Point News claimed that Alex Garland had been brought on to direct an Elden Ring movie for A24, with filming set to start next year. It sounds exciting... but it's probably bogus.
As reported by The Verge, the site doesn't have a reputation for breaking huge industry news like this. Most hastatic.aayyy.com/topic/dn/'t even heard of it until Wario64 shared a link to the Elden Ring story on Twitter (at a glance, the website tends to be shared exclusively on niche comic subreddits, often with the caveat, 'Are they trustworthy?'). What's more, the article was pulled shortly after being published, and Nexus Point News won't say why. There are a lot of red flags, especially when you dig through the site's history.
Wario64 has since deleted their tweet, but admitted that they "think it's absurd".
As ResetEra admin Transistor put it, "For a site no one's heard of, they sure have a lot of exclusives." It has made a litany of bold claims over the last year, and most of these either haven't been corroborated, or have been outright debunked, such as The Kane Chronicles getting a new Disney+ series (which was immediately denied) and Charlie Plummer being eyed for young Haymitch in the new Hunger Games movie (shortly after, Joseph Zada was cast).
An Elden Ring Movie Might Happen, But Take The A24 And Alex Garland News With A Grain Of Salt
via Big Bad Toy StoreGranted, just because Nexus Point News doesn't appear to be reliable, that doesn't mean there won't ever be an Elden Ring movie. FromSoftware said in 2022 that it wanted to expand the franchise "beyond the realm of games", which we've seen already with an officially licensed manga.
In fact, when speaking to IGN, George R. R. Martin (who created the game's world) said, "I can't say too much about it, but there is some talk about making a movie out of Elden Ring." FromSoftware might be working to get an adaptation off the ground right now, but 'talks' doesn't necessarily mean it'll go anywhere. Until it's outright confirmed, or reported by a more reputable outlet, we'll just have to wait and see.
