The story of Elden Ring is extremely complex, but the story of the Tarnished is relatively simple: you show up in The Lands Between, kill everyone in sight, and then wind up the Elden Lord. But there are so many situations in Elden Ring that could be solved with a nice conversation if only your character could talk.

But not everyone in Elden Ring would be receptive to negotiation. Starscourge Radahn, for example, hasn't got a mind left to bother talking to. Praetor Rykard seems similarly beyond the point of reasoning, and although it’s debatable whether you need to fight Rennala at all, she certainly doesn't seem like she'd relinquish the Great Rune of the Unborn no matter what the Tarnished offered.

But when Reddit user Magic_Oddball asked which boss would be the one to "talk it out" with, ghostySG had the right answer: "Talk to Malenia, give her the needle we would normally give to Milicent. Stave off at least some of the rot. Explain the situation. Bust into the Mohg Dynasty. Profit."

Many Redditors came to the same conclusion. Although Malenia is the hardest boss in Elden Ring, she's still an optional boss and one that narratively doesn't have a beef with the Tarnished. She, like her brother Miquella, isn't a fan of the Golden Order, and if she actually knew Mohg had taken her brother underground, you could easily kill two demigods with one Glintstone.

It's a similar story for Loretta, who seems to attack without first bothering to ask why we're at the Haligtree in the first place (although, to be fair, it was definitely, so we could loot everything that wasn't nailed down).

There are a couple of other "good" bosses that the Tarnished is forced to dispatch in Elden Ring, but there's one neutral boss that Reddit user itstheFREEDOM thinks could come to an arragenment. "Elemer of the Briar, The Bell Bearing Hunter," they offer. I’d walk into his chambers, sit down at the table, show him my HUGE bag of Bell bearings and say..... ‘You wheel? You...DEAL!’"
