The Bestial Incantations are one of Elden Ring’s more unusual spell types. They provide a unique mix of non-elemental damage spells and strong utility options, and all but one are acquired by giving Deathroot to the Beast Clergyman, Gurranq, at the Bestial Sanctum.

If you want to protect yourself from being staggered by your enemies, you should keep an eye on these armor sets.
PostsAs a result, some of these Incantations can be acquired at the very start of the game, but others won’t be accessible until you find the final Deathroot in the Mountaintops of the Giants. Let’s see which of these Incantations allow you to access the vicious ferocity of beasts, and which you can let Gurranq keep to himself.
The damage-dealing Incantations on this list are boosted by ten percent while you have the Clawmark Seal equiped.

Creates claws that rip through the ground in a wide area around you
Gurranq’s Beast Claw is one of several flashy area-of-effect spells in Elden Ring. But, unlike some of the others, it doesn’t really live up to its spectacular appearance. The main problem is that only one of the claws it creates can hit your target. Comparable spells, like Ancient Dragons’ Lightning Strike or Burn, O Flame!, can shred large enemies by hitting them multiple times.
The Incantation can still have some uses; it’s hard to dodge in PvP, since your opponent can’t simply sidestep it, but there are usually better options for that purpose. Alternatively, you might think the low Faith and FP requirements would be a significant advantage in Gurranq's Beast Claws' favor, but you can’t access it until the late game anyway, since you can only get eight Deathroot once you reach the Mountaintops of the Giants.

Removes Frostbite and Bleed buildup
Bestial Constitution is the sort of niche Incantation that can be lifesaving in precise circumstances, but will feel like a wasted memory slot at any other time. Against certain bosses and in PvP, where Frostbite and especially Bleed are more common, it can be quite helpful. If whatever you're fighting doesn't cause those status effects, you're out of luck, and the fact that the Incantation doesn't clear Frostbite once it triggers definitely doesn't make it any better.

PostsInterestingly, despite Bestial Constitution’s description saying Gurranq teaches it, it’s actually the only Incantation on this list that you don’t get from him, though you won’t need to stray far to find it. A Teardrop Scarab near the southern end of the bridge leading to the Bestial Sanctum drops it.

Fling multiple sharp rocks in front of you
Back when Elden Ring first launched, Bestial Sling was a PvP superstar. You could cast it exceptionally quickly, allowing you to stun enemies out of their attacks and stop them from casting spells or drinking Flasks.
Unfortunately, nerfs hit it fairly hard, reducing its ability to stagger your opponents. If you need a ranged Incantation that deals physical damage, there’s a much better option later on this list. Still, it’s easy enough to test its current effectiveness for yourself; you only need to give Gurranq two Deathroot before he teaches you how to use it.

Creates claws that rip through the ground in front of you
Unlike the fancier version that bears Gurranq’s name, the basic Beast Claw doesn’t hit in quite as large of an area. However, it can be charged, letting it punch above its weight and allowing you to buff its damage significantly with the Godfrey Icon Talisman.
It helps that the Incantation has a Faith requirement so low that it can be cast by any starting class aside from the two Intelligence-based options, although you do need to reach Altus Plateau before you can find enough Deathroot to get it. It’s still not a spectacular spell by any means, but you can certainly use it without feeling bad.

Restores 5 HP per second for 120 seconds
Bestial Vitality’s effect might seem minor, but a more in-depth examination reveals it to be one of the best healing Incantations you can find in the Lands Between. It doesn’t heal you for much on a per-second basis, but its duration makes it exceptionally efficient.

PostsAdd on the fact that it’s easy to cast even without much investment in Faith or Mind, and you get a surprisingly effective little spell. It only requires you to give Gurranq three Deathroot as well, which you can do relatively early on in your playthrough, in Liurnia of the Lakes.

Fling a boulder at your enemies
Incantations have a few options for dealing non-Elemental damage, several of which appear earlier on this list. But Stone of Gurranq is one of the few available that is both good and decently costed. Unlike most missile spells, it gets basically no tracking, but it actually has a much larger hitbox than most other ranged spells, making it surprisingly easy to land even against some smaller enemies.
You can even chain casts together, allowing you to deal damage faster and quickly Stance-break your opponent, something throwing boulders at a person is unsurprisingly quite good at. It is one of the later Bestial Incantations you can acquire, as you only get enough Deathroot for it once you reach Altus Plateau, but in this case, the wait is definitely worth it.
