The transfer window is one of the most important parts of the Manager Career mode in EA Sports FC 24. Transfers may be the best way to improve your squad, stock up for the future, or provide the depth you need to make a run at a title. Perhaps one of the most underused parts of the transfer window is Free Agents.

In this guide, we will walk you through how to find free agents, the keys to signing free agents to your squad, and a few you should scout when starting a new Manager Career.

How To Find Free Agents

On the Transfers tab in your Manager Central, go to the Search Players box, change the Transfer Status box to read “Free Agents” and Submit Search. The Search Results will bring up every player who is currently in the game but does not have a club.

Most of the Free Agents in EA Sports FC 24 do have professional clubs in real life, but those clubs are not in the game. Ghanian international Osman Bukari is listed as a Free Agent, but playing for the Serbian club Red Star Belgrade.

The Results sort players into All, Attacking, Midfield, Defender, and Goalkeepers, so you can peruse them like you would with other transfers and scout who you are interested in. Fortunately, compared to many of the players you might look for, Free Agents have some scouting done for you already, giving you sometimes narrow ranges for attributes.

One of the benefits of Free Agents is that you can sign them at any time, as they're not bound by the Transfer Window being open. That being said, some of the better ones will be signed by clubs during the first Transfer Window, and then throughout the game.

Throughout your Career, players whose contracts with their current clubs expire will be added to the Free Agent pool. If you don’t check it regularly, looking at the beginning of every season may find you some gems, particularly if you are playing with a low-level club.

Keys To Signing Free Agents

Free Agents are especially helpful if you don’t have a large Transfer Budget but can spend money on Wages instead. Free Agents do not require a transfer fee but will ask for wages and perhaps a bonus during negotiations.

Here are a few keys to picking the right Free Agents for your squad:

  • Sign Free Agents to Fill Holes: Unless you are a big club, you likely won’t have much depth. Free agents provide a cheap option for filling out your team and replacements in case of injury or fatigue to your Starting XI.
  • Clear Your Scouts’ Schedules: Most of the Scouts you start the game with will already be assigned to regions for scouting. Since Free Agents are not playing for a professional club, they can’t be scouted by any assigned Scouts. Ensure you have at least one Scout without an assignment to investigate these players.
  • Utilize What’s Already Known: As already mentioned, the ranges for attributes are already somewhat narrowed for Free Agents. Utilize those narrowed ranges to look for what you need, whether it’s a wide winger, backup goalkeeper, or scoring threat, by analyzing the traits you’re seeking.

Once you have fully scouted the players you are interested in (which will take seven to ten days in-game time), you will have their complete attributes and value. From there, you have the option to attempt to sign them yourself, delegate the contract negotiation to your Assistant Manager, or choose not to sign them.

When you enter negotiations, a Recommended Wage will appear on the screen to help guide you.

Free Agents You Should Sign

While most Free Agents are in the Overall range of 55-70, there are a few that can fill key or even starting roles on your Squad. In fact, you could have a half-decent Starting XI of players with an Overall rating around or higher than 70.

While you could fill out an entire Starting XI with Free Agents, many of them do not have a chance to grow and improve, so these players are best fit for short-term improvement while you build your Transfer Budget or depth for a higher-rated squad.
