American football is a violent sport, and injuries are inherent to an environment like this, but emerging from a game without a broken bone or concussion doesn't mean you're completely unscathed. EA Sports College Football 25 aims to replicate the real-life damage football players take with its Wear and Tear system.

Players won't be knocked out every snap, but they will be banged up. Not only does this create a more realistic experience, but it also directly impacts the on-field gameplay, forcing you to pay attention to a player's condition.

How Does Wear And Tear Work?

Every player's character model is divided up into multiple parts, such as arms, torso, and feet. When they are involved in a play and take a big hit, the body part that was struck will accumulate damage.

This in turn will affect any stats tied to that body part, reducing them to a shell of their healthy selves. A quarterback taking a single shot to the chest may still be effective, but a halfback whose legs have suffered copious abuse may see their production fall off a cliff. Their injury chance also increases significantly the more wear they take on, potentially forcing you to take them out. In situations like this, it's best to put in a backup.

You can quickly view someone's Wear and Tear status by taking control of them and looking at the player's reticle. The left side of the circle divided into five segments is indicative of their health; having all five pieces means they're feeling good, only one is almost injured.

How To Substitute Players

To substitute one player for another, pause the game and navigate to the coaching menu. Select Depth Chart, and you'll be greeted by your team's entire roster.

Find the player you want to take out and click on them; they will be highlighted. Now, select the person you want to replace them with, likely the slot immediately following them on the chart. The two players will be swapped, and you'll have a fresh body to use out on the field.

Wear and Tear actually heals slightly during timeouts, in between quarters, and at halftime. You may want to put your starters back into the game if they are able to recover effectively over time.
