PostsWorking with your allies is the only way to figure out what's going on behind closed doors in Vermund, but you can't always get access to any place you want, even as the Arisen. You'll have to dress the part and do a little detective work if you want to get to the bottom of things.
How To Start The Stolen Throne
The Stolen Throne is one of several main quests that Brant offers once you've arrived in Vernworth, and it's one of the first of them available to you once you speak to him in the Stardrop Tavern at night.
Brant will inform you that you need to enter an upcoming masquerade to help him gain intel. He will provide you with an Eventide Mask and tell you to also find a suitable outfit for the masquerade.
How To Obtain Formal Clothes
If you want to be able to enter the masquerade, you'll need a Courtly Tunic and Courtly Breeches equipped, or else you'll be turned away at the door.
To find both of these, head to the Noble Quarter in Vernworth and go into any home in the area except for the Townsend's Estate and the Rose Chateau Bordelrie.
You have a chance to find either a Courtly Tunic, Courtly Breeches, or both in the rooms of almost every house in Noble Quarter, and they'll generally be in a bag beside an NPC's bed. Some homes that often have at least one piece of the Courtly set include:
- Comptroller's Home.
- Watchhead's Home.
- Allard's Estate.
You can also find a full set of Courtly clothesby going into Vernworth Palace and opening the treasure chest in Sven's room.
Once you've got your Courtly Tunic and Breeches, go back to Brant in the tavern and confirm to him that you've got the right outfit.
How To Investigate The Masquerade
Wait for night on the right day, then go to Vernworth Hall on the western side of the castle grounds with the Eventide Mask and both Courtly pieces equipped. The guard will allow you into the masquerade, and you'll get a brief cutscene once you're inside.
You can speak to the guard outside the Vernworth Hall in the evenings and ask him if a masquerade is occurring on a given night.
When you're free to walk around, head into the room and speak to the man in an X robe standing near a pillar. After the conversation, go back towards the entrance, then follow the curved hallway to the end of the building.
Feel along the short section of back wall between two pillars, and you'll find a hidden door that you can walk through.
If you've already gotten the (side quest, A Magisterial Amenity (link here), you can find the spectacles in the storeroom at the back of the Hall.
Leave Vernworth Hall through the hidden door and follow the path until you reach the Rose Chateau. As soon as you enter through the curtains, you'll get another cutscene and end up at the Rose Chateau once it's over.
Now you can leave the Rose Chateau from one of the side rooms or through the main entrance, then head back to Brant while it's still nighttime to report back to him. In return for the intel you've gathered, Brant will reward you with:
- 900 EXP.
- A single Wakestone Shard.
- And 6,500 Gold.
