Helping certain prominent figures in Dragon’s Dogma 2 has its merits, as these open up entire questlines that handsomely reward you for completing them. Such is the case with Battahl's Empress Nadinia. Once you manage to save her from the assassin in Shadowed Prayers, there will be more quests to undertake, one of which is Crossing in Shadow.

This is a simple escort mission, which may seem less complex than the other quests involving Empress Nadinia. However, not only can you easily miss it, but most importantly, you can also end up spoiling it as a result of some poor choices that must be avoided.

How To Unlock The Crossing In Shadow Quest

Close

Crossing in Shadow is third in line in Nadinia's questline, and you will be able to unlock it once you've purchased a house for yourself in Vernworth from A Place to Call Home, and completed the preceding quest tied to Nadinia.

This quest isA Candle in the Storm, which you must complete with any of its three outcomes.

After meeting these conditions, rest till nightfall in your Vernworth home, and Nadinia’s attendant, Vera, will visit you. Vera will then inform you that Nadinia is in need of your help.

Should you find that you're unable to trigger the cutscene with Vera despite fulfilling the conditions, simply keep on resting till nightfall or enter your house when it's just about to get dark after spending the day in Vernworth.

Upon meeting Nadinia outside your house, you'll discover there's a reason for her choosing this particular time of day. She needs safe escort to the Rose Chateau bordelrie for undisclosed reasons while remaining hidden.

Trouble will likely ensue for her if she's found and, for that matter, the guise of darkness provides the optimal cover-up for her.

All Outcomes For The Crossing In Shadow Quest

During the quest, Vera and Nadinia will lead the way, and you simply need to follow both. However, two Beastren NPCs you’ll encounter along the way will hinder your progress, presenting choices that dictate the quest's outcome.

Arriving At The Destination On Time

One of the outcomes is successfully escorting the empress before the break of dawn. Simply follow them both until the first encounter happens near Philbert's Sundries.

You will come across Dommel, a Beastren in desperate need of medicinefor his dying wife, whom Philbert refuses to sell.

Nadinia, however, insists on helping Dommel, but given this might put her at risk of revealing her identity, you are compelled to help him in her stead.

You can either pay 1,000 Gold or choose to leave for the quest to progress, though opting for the latter disappoints Nadinia and worsens Dommel's situation.

Continue to press on, and you'll make it to the Noble Quarter, where you'll experience the next encounter with Fiachra, a Beastren thief being pursued by a guard.

While Fiachra asks for your help, you only have the option to abet his escape or refuse to aid him.

As the last thorn in Nadinia's path to reach her goal, unfortunately, you'll have to refuse his request. After that, Nadinia will easily make it to her goal in the bordelrie without jumping through any other hoops.

Upon successfully escorting Nadinia to Rose Chateau, she'll reveal her purpose for visiting the city: to make Vermund more welcoming to her Beastren kind.

You'll then meet her by the Arisen Statue in the Merchant Quarter, where you'll learn more about the city's founder.

Failing To Arrive On Time

Close

The least desirable outcome is a failed attempt at escorting the Beastren Empress on time. This happens if you rouse a guard by picking the wrong choice during any of the encounters with the Beastren NPCs.

As such, if you threaten to extort medicine from Philbert or aid in Fiachra's escape, you’ll end up getting thrown into Vernworth Castle Gaol Tower.

And because time has already passed after you awaken in the gaol, Nadinia is unable to reach her goal on time, thus leading to a failed escort.

All Rewards For Completing Crossing In Shadow

  • If Nedinia safely reaches her goal before morning, you're awarded 4000 XP, 20,000 Gold, and a Sunbloom .
  • If arrested by the guard, you'll only earn 4000 XP.
