Summary

  • Future Gohan has been confirmed to be a playable character in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero.
  • The latest issue of V-Jump also confirms that he'll be missing one of his arms, something that most Dragon Ball games don't do.
  • Previous Budokai Tenkaichi games have just had Future Gohan fight with one arm to reference his missing limb.

The latest issue of V-Jump has revealed that Future Gohan will be playable in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero and, surprisingly, will only have one arm.

Although Gohan is one of the most important and popular characters in Dragon Ball Z, he's strangely been completely missing from Sparking Zero ever since the game was first revealed. That's changed recently, however, as the latest issue of V-Jump has confirmed that Gohan will be playable in both his kid and adult variants.

Of course, no one really thought that Gohan wouldn't be in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, but it is nice to finally see him in action. The bigger surprise comes from the fact that Future Gohan will be on the base roster, as some fans thought that the focus on Super would mean he'd more likely be DLC if he was in the game at all.

Future Gohan Is In Sparking Zero And Missing An Arm

That isn't the case at all, though, as V-Jump confirms that he'll be on the launch roster. Not only that, but the images of him confirm that he'll only have one of his arms, which might seem like a weird thing to point out, but it's a very interesting detail for anyone who has been following Dragon Ball games over the past few decades.

One of the key moments in Future Gohan's life is when he loses his arm during a battle with Android 17 and Android 18, choosing to use a Senzu Bean on Trunks instead of saving himself. It's a surprisingly graphic moment for Dragon Ball and one that has stuck with fans for a long time, but DBZ games rarely give it the respect it deserves.

To be completely fair, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot also showed Future Gohan without his arm, which came as a big surprise when it was originally confirmed.

In most of his gaming appearances. Future Gohan is shown with both of his arms, presumably because of how an amputated character would impact each game's age rating. To make up for this and to reference the fact he loses a limb, Future Gohan's moves all only involve one arm, which is a neat reference but still falls flat without it being properly represented.

It seems that, for some reason, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has decided to do away with that and visibly shown Future Gohan with one of his arms missing. That might seem like a strange thing for Dragon Ball fans to celebrate, but considering how rare it is in Dragon Ball games for that to be the case, it's a very interesting detail.
