The latest gameplay trailer for Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has seemingly confirmed that Grabs are returning alongside the iconic Sonic Sway counter move from Budokai Tenkaichi 3.

As desperate as we all are to never see "Wishlist Now" again, you can't deny that Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has been pretty consistent with its news drops and trailers. We've been receiving new character reveals pretty consistently and even got a gameplay showcase just a few months ago that featured a battle between Goku and Vegeta.

Sparking Zero's gameplay deep-dive showcased a lot of respect for both Budokai Tenkaichi and, more surprisingly, Raging Blast.

You might think that gameplay showcase confirmed all of the moves and abilities that will be available to players in Sparking Zero (especially since it also introduced several new ones), but that seemingly isn't the case at all. Just a few days ago, a new gameplay trailer was shown that revealed Beerus, Whis, Future Gohan, and several other playable characters, as well as hinting at a few new techniques.

Grabs Have Finally Been Confirmed

Let's start off with the one technique that completely passed me by until Redditor Obelisk7777 pointed it out on the Budokai Tenkaichi subreddit - grabs. Previous games in the series (as well as Xenoverse) have given each character a unique grab move, such as Goku's iconic Hammer Throw or Frieza using his tail to choke his opponent and send them flying.

I can't believe it's taken so long for grabs to be shown in Sparking Zero, but a small clip from the Master vs Apprentice trailer seems to have confirmed them. As you can see from Obelisk7777's post, there's a short scene where Roshi pulls off a quick combo on his opponent and sends them flying.

It might look like a basic combo, but it's actually an improved version of his grab from Budokai Tenkaichi 3, suggesting they're making a return. We haven't seen any other character use a grab so far in Sparking Zero, with the closest thing being moves like Goku's Meteor Smash.

It's possible the move is a quick combo, but the movements are nearly the same and Yamcha gets sent flying as if it is a grab, so most players think the mechanic is returning.

Sonic Sway Is Also Back

The other big returning technique that was confirmed in the trailer is Sonic Sway, a defensive move from the classic Budokai Tenkaichi games that lets you dodge incoming attacks. In the original trilogy, the player dodged at an incredible speed, but for Sparking Zero, it's been made much cooler with the player dodging attacks in slow motion.

This ability was a bit more of an obvious inclusion since the trailer focuses on it so much, but not every player remembers what it was called or that it's a returning ability at all. The reception to it has been very positive, though, as fans have been calling it out as the highlight of the whole trailer.
