Summary

  • For some reason, Rooks are mewing while Bellara pours her heart out in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

  • But they can't agree on whether it's a bug. Regardless, it definitely takes away from the scene.

As pointed out by Reddit user IbuprofenAbuser, during an incredibly emotional reveal about Bellara's backstory in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, there's a distracting problem. Rook won't stop mewing.

With the time skip, and especially compared to Varric and Emmrich, Rook has to be the Thedas equivalent of an iPad Gen Z kid. It's canon, I'm afraid. The dialogue wheel even has choices like "oof" and "ick".

The dialogue wheel gets a one on the boom meter, though.

But mewing when your friend is pouring their heart out might be a step too far (for the Xennials reading this — one of my colleagues was confused too — think duck face). There's a time and a place for the Rizzler, and this ain't it.

Fans Can't Decide If It's A Bug Or Not

Some players, convinced that the mewing is an unfortunate glitch, went as far as to tweak their Rooks' appearance in the Lighthouse mirror to try and avoid it happening again.

Some simply changed their lips, hoping that by making them wider, Rook would pack in the mewing, but others completely upended their designs out of disgust.

It's funny, but in context it takes away from the scene. Bellara is opening up to you, letting you see her at her most vulnerable, and you're standing there like a rejected Jersey Shore cast member.

It does ruin the atmosphere a bit, so hopefully it is a bug and BioWare revokes Rook's rizz privileges (I'm so sorry about everything I've written in this article).
