Summary
- Good news Dragon Age fans - The Veilguard will be native to Steam.
- That means you won't have to put up with the EA App to actually launch the game, something which fans have hated for quite a while.
- BioWare has also confirmed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard is Steam Deck verified, meaning you wont have to put up with the EA App on the go either.
If you're a big PC gamer and also a fan of Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Battlefield, or any of EA's big franchises, chances are you'll have run into problems with the EA App at some point. It's a launcher that you're required to download and use to play pretty much all the publisher's games, but it's caused no small amount of headaches since its introduction due to how difficult it is to navigate, how glitchy it can be, and how it can make even booting up games a hassle. Dragon Age: Origins is already a pain to get running as it is.
Thankfully, Dragon Age fans don't have to put up with it for much longer, as BioWare recently revealed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be native to Steam and won't require players to download the EA App alongside it. That means if you buy the game on Steam, you play the game on Steam, and there won't be unnecessary barriers getting in the way of your good time.
It's interesting that Dragon Age: The Veilguard, of all titles, is one of the few that doesn't require the EA App to run on Steam, especially when other recent big releases from the publisher like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and EA Sports FC 25 do. Smaller titles like Tales of Kenzera: ZAU don't require the app, but Dragon Age: The Veilguard is definitely the biggest in recent memory to scrap the requirement. It may be wishful thinking, but it's possible EA may have figured out the launcher is a bit of a barrier to entry for some people.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Is Also Steam Deck Verified
Of course, the EA App revelation wasn't the only thing that BioWare had to share, as it confirmed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be Steam Deck verified on launch, meaning you also won't have to deal with the hassle of the EA App if you want to play the game on the go.
Now, the only piece of information we're waiting for is that elusive release date. As far as we're aware, BioWare still has plans to launch the game this year, though it's been strangely shy about revealing a specific date. That's most likely to ensure that the team has enough time to polish things up and fix any lingering issues without a hard date hovering over their heads. With the game being Steam Deck verified, we should be getting a release date sooner rather than later though.
