Dr Disrespect Says He Shouldn't Have Been Banned From Twitch After Messaging A Minor

Dr Disrespect has made his return to YouTube, a little over a month after he admitted to "inappropriately" messaging a minor. This came after numerous sources reported that this was the reason behind his infamous Twitch ban in 2020, with others claiming that he arranged to meet the minor in question.

Now, Dr Disresprect - real name Guy Beahm - is partially walking back on his initial statement. Now, Beahm says that the person he was messaging was above the age of consent where they lived, and suggests that he only described them as a minor in his initial statement to misdirect journalists and his accusers. This comes after he previously edited his statement to remove the word "minor", before deleting it altogether.

Later on in his statement, which was streamed to YouTube, Beahm argues that he should not have been banned from Twitch.

"Anonymous sources are trying to paint a picture that I was exchanging sexually explicit messages and photos with this Twitch user," says Beahm. "That never happened. I even used the word 'inappropriate' purposely, and look at how it was defined by everyone."

He continues, arguing against his Twitch ban. "I'm sorry, but mutual bantering with inappropriate jokes taken out of context should have never led to me getting banned from Twitch in the first place," he says. "I mean how would each of you look if all of your private DMs, your text messages, your chats were looked at dissected and taken out of context by someone who's deliberately trying to find something inappropriate in those words?"

These allegations were first made public by former Twitch employee Cody Conners back in June. At the time, Conners tweeted, "He got banned because got caught sexting a minor in the then existing Twitch whispers product. He was trying to meet up with her at TwitchCon. The powers that be could read in plain text [sic]."

Anonymous sources speaking to Bloomberg then claimed that the messages Beahm exchanged with the individual were "sexually explicit". Rolling Stone, also citing a source, described the messages as "sexually graphic", and were sent to an individual that Beahm "knew to be underage". Beahm denies this claim. A further source cited by The Verge also backed up claims that Beahm was arranging to meet a minor that he was speaking with through Twitch, another allegation that he denies.

While he has now returned to Twitch, Beahm's gaming company, Midnight Society, has already parted ways with him over these allegations. He is able to continue making content on YouTube, though, even as the service previously demonetised his channel.
