Thankfully, you’ll have handmade weapons to dispatch these enemies, so long as you’ve got the tools. We’ve gone through Don’t Starve Together and have chosen some of the best Don’t Starve Together weapons in our list below to help you handle the bumps in the night.

Updated on May 16, 2025, by William Quick: Klei Entertainment captured many minds and hearts with their animated visuals combined with daunting scenarios, and Don't Starve Together proves how effective that's been. The survival-craft co-op game continues to grow and expand, most recently adding adjustments to several characters, new skins, and some mechanical tweaks. The adventure is going through the From Beyond storyline, so there's still plenty to do, like crafting new weapons! You won't survive long without a good way to defend yourself, so here are the top picks for weapons to wield.

13 Shadow Maul

A Smashing Darkness

Crafting Recipe

Possessed Shadow Atrium, five Pure Horror, three Dreadstone, and two Dark Tatters

How to Get It

Craft on the Shadowcraft Plinth

When it comes to the harsh environment of Don't Starve Together, anything practical is highly valuable. Despite how horrifying it looks, the Shadow Maul is a nice mix of tool and weapon, which lets it destroy enemies just as easily as it chops down trees.

It does some solid smashing damage but is most effective against Lunar enemies, of which there are many. If you wear the Void Cowl while having the Shadow Maul equipped, you'll do even more damage with it. Slay bosses to make them stronger and more efficient so you can heal while attacking (at the cost of sanity).

12 Elding Spear

Comes With Charging

Crafting Recipe

Two Twigs, Two Volt Goat Horn, and Beefalo Wool

How to Get It

Craft as Wigfrid with Elding Spear Skill

Wigfrid is one of the more popular characters made for battle and has many exclusive weapons. One of the more powerful ones she can wield is the Elding Spear, which she can craft herself and is especially effective against wet enemies.

Aside from having some cool skins, the Elding Spear's true power lies in charging it. Using Restrained Static, you can charge up the spear to deal with electrical damage, which will hurt wet enemies even more. It also lets it hit multiple targets and repairs itself as you keep striking.

11 Strident Trident

Striding To Triple Piercing

Crafting Recipe

Three Gnarwail Horn, four Kelp Fronds, and two Twigs

How to Get It

Craft after getting Blueprint from Crab King

Considering how cool and deadly they are, you'd think tridents would be more commonly used as weapons. You can bring one of the best by getting your hands on the Strident Trident, which you can only craft after you slay the Crab King.

It's a handy weapon that can reach and damage both on land and in the Ocean. Its true power comes from its ability to cast spells, its trademark ability to spawn geysers in the target area that damage any nearby enemies (just be careful not to use them on a boat).

10 The Spear

The Early-Game Standard

Crafting Recipe

One Rope, one Flint, and two Twigs

How to Get It

From the Fight tab at the Science Machine

The standard Spear is your bread and butter, especially early in the game when your resources are limited - because all of this can be acquired on day one. But don't overlook it just because the recipe is simple, as it can hit 150 times and does a reasonable 34 damage.

Not only can you craft this on your own with a Science Machine, but you can also find Spears lying around in the world near failed Survivor set pieces. The Spear doesn't deal with the damage you want to bring into a boss fight, though, so it isn't highly ranked.

9 The Bat Bat

You Can Heal Heal

Crafting Recipe

One Purple Gem, two Living Logs, and three Batilisk Wings

How to Get It

Prototype it at the Shadow Manipulator

The Bat Bat comes with many terms and conditions, and considering the crafting materials required, it's not necessarily worth it. Like a vampire bat, this winged weapon will leech the life force of any enemy unlucky enough to get in your way.

Considering the other weaponry available in the Shadow Manipulator, it deals 42.5 damage (which isn't much) and will heal you for 6.8 with every hit. However, be mindful, as it will also drain your sanity by 3.4for the same thing if you have anything less than full health.

8 Wigfrid's Battle Spear

A Limited Improvement

Crafting Recipe

Two Flint, two Twigs, and two Gold Nuggets

How to Get It

Play as Wigfrid

We hope you like Wigfrid if you're into her Battle Spear because Wigfrid is the only character who can make it. But, she will also spawn into the world with one in her inventory, meaning she won't need to make it too often unless it's being crafted as an alternative to the regular Spear for someone else.

It deals 42.5 damage and can be used 200 times. Between this and her character's unique 1.25x damage modifier, Wigfrid is one hell of a fighter!

7 The Tentacle Spike

Worth Risking Your Life?

Crafting Recipe

N/A

How to Get It

Occasional drops from Tentacles

As far as weapons go, this one is a little perilous to find. In the Marsh Biome, an underground mob calledTentacles can spawn and shoot out of the bog to whack at players and other mobs alike. Kiting this beast is tricky, but if left alone with Spiders or bosses, they will eventually wear down its 500hp.

With a 50 percent chance of dropping this weapon each time a Tentacle is slain and 51 damage, the Tentacle Spike is a great early-to-mid-game weapon - if you're brave enough, go get it.

6 The Ham Bat

Meat Melee

Crafting Recipe

Two Twigs, Two Meat, and one Pig Skin

How to Get It

Prototype at the Alchemy Engine

As Wilson states upon inspecting it, "This seems unsanitary," and indeed, it is. Whether you want to use your very limited, high-value food for this is up to you, but the Ham Bat will last a lot longer than you might expect.

The meat on the weapon means it's only good for ten days, but you have unlimited uses in that time. It deals 59.5 damage, making it a great choice to bring with you into battle when you know your weapon's durability won't be an issue. Use it to fertilize Berry Bushes once you're done!

5 The Dark Sword

Devastate Your Sanity

Crafting Recipe

Five Nightmare Fuel, and one Living Log

How to Get It

Prototype it at a Shadow Manipulator

Technically, the Dark Sword is tied as the second-strongest weapon in Don't Starve Together and is something of a fan favorite, but we struggle to place it any higher on our list because of the hefty price there is for using it.

While your character is holding the Dark Sword, your sanity will plummet at a staggering rate of -20 per minute. And with most boss fights making you lose Sanity just for fighting them, keeping all the Sanity you can feel is more substantial.

4 The Glass Cutter

The Clear-Cut Choice

Crafting Recipe

One Plank and Six Moon Shards

How to Get It

Craft it from the Celestial Tab when near the Celestial Altar

This glass weapon is tricky to obtain, but its damage matches that of the Dark Sword without the pesky sanity drain, so it's more than worth it. You'll need to find the Celestial Altar to craft it, so take to the seas and head out for Lunar Island.

What makes the Glass Cutter worth the nightmarish trip is thatit will lose half as much durability when fighting any of Charlie's minions (such as Shadow Creatures, Shadow Chess Pieces, or the Ancient Fuelweaver).
