While the stealth mechanics may feel familiar, Dishonored shifts the genre by allowing you to manipulate the world with your magical abilities. If you want to seek justice like a pro, follow these tips and tricks below to maximize your prowess as a supernatural assassin.
8 Utilize Advanced Takedowns
An important asset to becoming a great assassin is understanding how to move through the world swiftly and efficiently. In Dishonored, you can also improve your parkour by mastering advanced takedowns to quickly weave in and out of combat.
While playing the game, you should never expose yourself when knocking out a guard or completing a kill. Instead, you can utilize movement techniques while finishing off your targets. An example of this would be dragging a guard into a secluded area while incapacitating him, or jumping from a roof to assassinate someone from above to mitigate fall damage. All of these skills will help you to navigate through levels faster, and most importantly, safer.
7 Possess Guards To Escape Detection
Possession is an incredibly useful tool to force guards into harmful situations, but you can also use the ability to remove enemy detection. This is helpful if you are choosing to play the game without killing any enemies, since possessed guards are left dazed after you inhabit their minds.
If a guard happens to spot you, quickly possess them to control their body and reposition them wherever you would like. When you exit the possession, whomever you control will completely forget about detecting you, allowing you to easily incapacitate or execute them before anyone else learns about your whereabouts. However, you must react immediately whenever you are spotted, as you don't want one guard to alert others before you can enter his mind.
6 Poison Campbell With His Own Wine
During the first assassination mission, you travel into the city to eliminate a military overseer named Thaddeus Campbell after he betrays the crown. There are many different ways to kill this dishonorable man, and even a way to complete the mission without shedding his blood. However, one of the more hidden assassination methods lies within his wine.

During the mission, you learn that Campbell plans to poison the leader of the city watch to ensure his political control. If you are stealthy enough, you can actually sneak into his office and switch the wine glasses without Campbell knowing. Once their meeting takes place, Campbell will sip on the poisoned wine and die from his own political scheming while you watch from the shadows.
5 Hide Evidence With A Rat Swarm
During your time traveling through the city of Dunwall, you may be suddenly discovered if guards find evidence of your assassinations. This most commonly occurs whenever a guard stumbles upon the corpse of a previously slain enemy. Obviously, an easy way to combat this is to dispose of unconscious or dead enemies on top of rooftops or inside garbage bins. However, you may not always have this option.
Luckily, you will unlock the ability to summon a deadly swarm of rats. This is a great offensive tool that can be utilized when fighting multiple enemies at once. However, the ability does not have to be solely used in combat, since the summoned rats will also deal with the remains, leaving behind no evidence. This also saves the number of runes you spend on your abilities, since you will no longer have to spend your resources leveling Shadow Kill.
4 Help Slackjaw Kidnap The Pendleton Brothers
During the House of Pleasure mission, you will be tasked with assassinating two of the Pendleton brothers. While you can certainly carry out these killings in brutal ways, the game also has a secret way of removing these two pompous brothers from power without killing them.
Before you attack either brother, you must rendezvous with another customer in the pleasure house and torture him with electroshock therapy to get him to reveal the code to his safe. While it contains expensive paintings, you can forgo the loot and trade the safe code with a gang leader named Slackjaw. In return for this information, Slackjaw promises to kidnap the two brothers and force them to work in the very mines that they own, a form of poetic justice that completely avoids bloodshed.
3 Turn Rats Into Living Bombs
As you play through the game, you'll unlock various ranged weapons and gadgets that you may use to creatively kill your opponents. One of these gadgets, the spring razor, is a sticky mine that can attach to any surface. When an enemy walks by the mine, it will trigger an explosion of shrapnel that will tear up whoever was caught in the blast. While these mines are certainly lethal tools, combining them with your abilities and the natural environment can make them even more deadly.

The spring razor is not limited to just surfaces like the floor or walls. The mines can also be attached to body parts, which can then be thrown into groups of enemies. One of the most creative uses of this gadget is to stick the mine onto a living rat. With your possession skill, you can then control this living bomb and lead the rat into a group of enemies to kill multiple guards at once. When using a rat bomb, it is imperative to quickly exit the possession and blink away before the rat explodes to avoid dying.
2 Weaponize The Wall Of Light
All across the city of Dunwall, you'll encounter guard checkpoints that contain electric walls that block you from your objective. In order to get around these electrical barriers, you must find alternate pathways or unplug their power sources. However, with your abilities and gadgets, you can turn these electrical fences against unsuspecting guards.
By using the possession ability, you can enter into the mind of a guard and easily cross through the wall of light, since these foot soldiers have special clearances. While this is certainly useful to stealthily make your way through levels, you may want to use this electrical barrier to incinerate your enemies. Using a rewire tool allows you to override the clearance within the wall of light making the machine attack guards instead of you.
After this subterfuge, all you need to do is possess the guards and force them to walk into the eviscerating electricity. Not only will this clear the area of enemies, but they will be turned to undetectable ash if another group of guards happens upon the area.
1 Bend Time To Dodge Bullets
One of the most powerful abilities you can unlock and upgrade in Dishonored is temporal manipulation. You can invest your runes into upgrading the bend time skill to greatly slow down everything within the game for a short period, or upgrade the skill again to freeze time entirely with the ability.
While it is certainly advantageous to sneak through dangerous areas by freezing time, you can also utilize this ability during combat scenarios to execute flashy assassinations. For example, freezing time allows you to pick up bullets from midair, which you can then load into your pistol to fire back at the enemy attacking you. Alternatively, you can combine the bend time skill with possession to reposition a guard, forcing them to stand in front of their own bullets.
