Disney Dreamlight Valley presents the unique opportunity to bring all the iconic Disney and Pixar characters together in one place. Many of them have their original designs, like Beast’s red cape and Ariel’s mermaid form, while some have additional styles you can either unlock through events or purchase in the Premium Shop, such as Elsa’s transformation dress from Frozen and new outfits for classic characters like Mickey, Donald, and Goofy based on different Star Paths each season.

However, after playing Disney Lorcana, I can’t help but see the opportunity for Dreamlight Valley to expand its horizons just a little further. Lorcana’s Storyborn characters are based on the designs we know and love, but the Floodborn are unique variants, giving classic characters a whole new aesthetic.

Belle already has several outfits available in Dreamlight Valley, but what about her Lorcana designs? Belle, Inventive Engineer, dons a smith’s apron and a gold-brimmed jacket as she tinkers away. Meanwhile, Belle, Hidden Archer, sees the bookworm camouflaged in a green cloak trimmed with white fur. She holds a bow, and the arrows are made from live roses. And with dozens of Floodborn cards in Lorcana already, there’s lots of potential for several of Dreamlight Valley’s residents.

With how Star Paths and the Premium Shop are handled, Gameloft could offer different decor items and outfits from the unique Lorcana designs. They could be one-off items that rotate through the Premium Shop whenever a new set drops, or an entire month-long event could be dedicated to the Lorcana inspired items. I know I’d drop a good amount of time and money to collect everything.

It’s not just the heroes that have designs that should be included – villains like Scar and Gaston have alternative looks that would suit them well in Dreamlight Valley. Jafar has a considerably sinister design as Jafar, Striking Illusionist, which would make his presence in Eternity Isle all the more imposing.

There’s no reason to stop at the Floodborn designs either, as many Dreamborn characters also have reimagined appearances that capture the characters’ personalities and personal journeys. Besides, I’m not lucky enough to pull some of the cards I’d like, but I still want to have a sense of ownership with the design – if I can’t have the card, I can still see it in motion in Dreamlight Valley.

Part of the appeal of Disney Dreamlight Valley is knowing that you’re not a kid anymore, but you can still have fun like one. The classic designs of characters like Tiana, Rapunzel, and Mickey Mouse are familiar and comforting, but they can also be changed to better reflect the personality and growth I’ve had since first being introduced to them. Tiana’s stunning green gown is a sight to behold, but so is Lorcana’s gorgeous Tiana, Celebrating Princess masquerade gown.

The Floodborn designs embody that idea well, as they are characters that have come into contact with powerful magic that reshaped them in new and unexpected ways. What is the Forgetting if not powerful magic gone awry? These designs have the opportunity to capture a bit of the changes each character went through while you were gone and express it.

When you bring characters like Minnie and Eric back to the valley, they’re not the same people they were from before the Forgetting. Sure, they’re still the iconic bubbly mouse with a bow and the sailor prince captivated by a siren, but there’s a heaviness to them. Minnie is constantly afraid she’ll disappear again and Eric made a great sacrifice to protect Ariel. Dreamlight Valley also plays with the characters and your perceptions of them in interesting ways, just like Lorcana.

It might take time, but I’ll wait for it. Disney characters are near and dear to many, and Lorcana has found a way to redefine the characters and breathe new life into what could be. Dreamlight Valley offers an opportunity to actually test those boundaries. Just like I’m not the same person I was when I first met these characters, they’ve also grown and changed over the years. The opportunity to showcase that and collaborate to bring these stunning designs to life in-game shouldn’t be passed up.
