The seventh week of Destiny 2's Season of the Witch released the final portion of "The Bladed Path" quest. Eris Morn requires one last tithing ritual to overcome Xivu Arath and her forces. But unlike this season's core activities, this mission has no matchmaking and features a fairly tough final boss.

Mission: Sunder will test your build's ability to clear adds, deal boss damage, and overall survivability. It's nowhere near as difficult as a dungeon or other endgame PvE content, but more casual players might be surprised at how tough the final boss can be. This guide will cover the best loadouts you can bring for this mission, and we'll give some tips on how to handle each phase of the Leviathan-Eater boss fight.

Recommended Loadouts

While this mission isn't as difficult as a dungeon or Exotic mission, Sunder throws dozens of adds at you and features a rather tanky boss. Builds with good survivability and add clear are ideal here.

  • Hunter: Arcstrider with Assassin's Cowl is a great option. Your punches will deal great damage, heal you, and turn you invisible for a short duration. Use a One-Two Punch Shotgun and Tractor Cannon to dish out some serious damage.
  • Warlock: Dawnblade is a safe pick for this mission. Well of Radiance will give you a safe area to damage the boss from. Sunbracers is recommended for spamming grenades, triggering Ashes to Assets for short Super cooldowns.
  • Titan: Sunbreaker with Synthoceps should have no trouble with this boss. Use Sol Invictus and Roaring Flames to greatly ramp up your survivability and Throwing Hammer damage.

As for weapons, you'll want a Primary weapon for add clear and a Heavy weapon for single-target DPS. Anything with Voltshot, Incandescent, or an Exotic Primary will clear adds with little issue. Rocket Launchers are ideal for boss DPS, although you can opt to use Lament or Leviathan's Breath instead. This will trade raw DPS for safety and ammo sustain.

Defeat The Leviathan-Eater

You'll start the mission just outside of the Altars of Summoning. Interact with any pools of Hive magic you find to dispel Savathun's traps. You'll find a Hive circle just outside of Savathun's underground spire that should dispel the door's exterior runes. Make your way inside and plant a Rally Flag.

Once you speak with Eris, an army of Hive will appear at the opposite end of the room. Leviathan-Eater, Bane of the Ammonites is a massive Hive Knight with three phases. The first phase simply requires you to remove 15% of its HP. It should drop its immunity shield shortly after the encounter starts. We recommend damaging the boss as soon as possible to start the next phase, using your Heavy weapon or Super to deal some damage.

The second phase requires you to escort two Solar Crystals to Eris' side. There's no time limit here, so we recommend you focus on clearing out the adds first. Use your Primary weapon or abilities to thin the herd. You can take cover under the bridge or near Eris' side if you get overwhelmed. When you've cleared most of the Hive, escort the crystal to a nearby brazier. Crystals will grant x1 Restoration since you've attuned to all three elements, making this escort section fairly easy. Deposit both crystals and remove Leviathan-Eater's next chunk of HP.

Bombardment

Removing just over half of the boss' HP will cause it to retreat, summoning a couple of Hive ships that will bombard your location. Retreat to Eris and initiate a Hive ritual. This will create a protective dome around Eris that should block all incoming damage. Multiple Thrall and Knights will converge on your location for the next minute. If you have a roaming Super or any close-range weapons, now is a good time to use them.

Staying alive long enough will cause the Leviathan-Eater to charge into the dome before destroying it, initiating the final DPS phase. Use your remaining Heavy ammo and abilities to quickly kill the boss. All the adds will despawn once they're dead, so don't hold back. Strafe around the boss throughout this part to avoid its massive AoE slash attacks, and you should be able to down the Leviathan-Eater with little issue. Slay the Hive Knight to finish the mission and this season's questline.
