Most of the time, you'll have to go out of your way to collect the best loot in Destiny 2. Whether farming dungeons for specific god rolls or coordinating complicated raid challenges, there's nothing a determined player won't do for glorious loot. In addition, new exotic weapons are usually introduced into the game with hype and panache, with some accompanied by a unique quest.

These exotic quests offer players a chance to test their skills, face powerful foes, and earn some of the most sought-after weapons in the game. The best exotic quests in Destiny 2 go beyond the traditional formula of "go there and kill x amount of enemies" and immerse you into a narrative adventure that explores how the characters of the world form meaningful connections to their signature weapons.
6 Lost Lament (The Lament)
The Lost Lament exotic quest takes you into the twisted and brilliant mind of Clovis Bray, and the surprising connection he has with the Tower's resident gunsmith, Banshee-44.
The quest begins with Banshee receiving glimpses of his old memories after the Guardians entered the Deep Stone Crypt. Then, Banshee asks you to make sense of his muddled memories by finding clues around Europa.

After a whole questline that concludes by protecting a giant Exo head after accidentally revealing its location to the Vex, showing The Lament sword to Banshee lets him remember that he used to be Clovis Bray, and he lets you keep his old sword.
Regardless of earning the best sword in Destiny 2, the build-up and reveal of Banshee's past are worth the lengthy questline.
5 The Voice On The Other Side (Dead Man's Tale)
Hidden inside an unassuming container in the Arms Dealer strike, you'll intercept a distress signal from an abandoned Cabal Vessel in the Tangled Shore. The mission immediately sets an eerie vibe as you set foot on the cold, deserted ship.
Furthermore, the combat encounters are claustrophobic and uncomfortable, like fighting to explode Screebs as the walls slowly converge to crush your fireteam.
Additionally, Osiris attempts to uncover a faint signal from a fellow Guardian on the ship. Along the way, you'll also learn more about Emperor Calus and his dark sacrifices.
The mission to recover Dead Man's Tale is straightforward but well-executed, leaning into horror elements not commonly seen in Destiny 2.
4 Of Queens And Worms (Parasite)
After defeating Savathûn and concluding the Witch Queen campaign, Mara Sov entrusts you with reviving the Hive god's worm. The exotic quest takes you on two missions and several key areas around the Throne World.
The whole questline is filled with rich lore about the Witness, and the talking worm also sows doubt regarding the true allegiance of Mara Sov.

On the last mission, you'll grab onto the dying worm as you charge through a deadly obstacle course, as the snarky creature insults your competence. You'll end up having the last laugh as Mara literally turns the creature into the gun, concluding the lengthy quest line.
While Of Queens and Worms has traces of the burdensome formula, its two unique missions and memorable banter make it a worthwhile exotic quest.
3 Unfinished Business (Deterministic Chaos)
The Cloudstriders serve as Neomuna's defenders, mostly from Vex invaders. After the noble sacrifice of Rohan during the Lightfall campaign, Nimbus struggles with processing their grief, recklessly throwing themselves into danger.
Unfinished Business follows their obsession to honor their deceased mentor's legacy and finish his lifelong project to stop the Vex's copycat veil.

Lightless and coming to terms with his mortality, Osiris sees his anger in Nimbus and attempts to console them. Unfinished Business is an emotional exotic that's an appropriate send-off for an impressionable character that was left too early.
2 Cayde's Will (Ace Of Spades)
Cayde's Will is an exotic quest where Banshee-44 attempts to recover Cayde-6's signature Handcannon, Ace of Spades. Fortunately, Cayde-6, being the paranoid Hunter he is, left stashes on several planets.
The final mission occurs within Titan, where Cayde-6 leaves ten messages for any of his possible killers.
Cayde-6's messages are heartfelt and bittersweet, showing love and respect for his possible killers. It's sad that Cayde-6 recorded the messages thinking that any of his friends would be the last to end him, yet none of the people mentioned in his recordings were the ones to send the final bullet.
1 Zero Hour (Outbreak Perfected)
It's a shame Zero Hour is vaulted content because the quest was a love letter to Destiny 1 players while providing a sizable challenge that could rival end-game content. Zero Hour is a secret quest where you and your fireteam are teleported into the original Tower, where you'll have to fight back difficult Fallen in the area.
Zero Hour is a fully fleshed-out strike with back-to-back intense encounters, multiple puzzles, and an excellent boss fight. Additionally, you only have twenty minutes to complete the encounter before the finish fails.
As a result, Zero Hour felt like a three-person raid; all to earn one of the best Pulse Rifles in the game.
