Dead Island 2 players aren't happy with the game's zombie spawns, as they're apparently appearing behind players without warning them and jumpscaring them.

Much like the first game, one of the defining features of Dead Island 2 is that its zombies are a force to be reckoned with. Even though you've got a ton of tools to slice, dice, crush, and burn them, even one of the undead can be enough to take the player down if they're not careful. That's without them turning into sneaky ninjas and spawning behind players.

That's exactly what's happening to a number of players, however. Over on the Dead Island subreddit, Redditor DeV4der shared a meme expressing their one major annoyance with the game so far - that the zombies keep spawning behind them, attacking out of nowhere, and jumpscaring them in the process.

DeV4der said, "Like seriously, I just arrived at the hotel, and before entering I tried to clear the area in front of it, and I kid you not I see zombies, I turn around and back away a bit - everything looks safe - I turn around to attack the zombies, I get smacked in the butt! Like I had 5 Jumpscares by this so far".

They aren't the only ones, either - several other Dead Island players responded to the thread sharing to share that they've had the same thing happen to them, with one Redditor going as far as to say that it's the "worst thing about the game". Not everyone agrees with it being such a problem, with some Redditors replying to the thread to defend the game and say that you just need some situational awareness and to look behind you every so often.

It's not just zombies spawning behind the player either, as players have also been complaining about how fast the respawn timers are in general and that zombies can fill an area too fast. That, combined with the fact that everything resets when you leave an area, means that there are very few times to chill in Dead Island 2. Again, some players seem to prefer that instead of areas having no zombies, but the respawn rates and random nature of where the zombies can appear seems to have most players annoyed.

In fairness, Dead Island 2 does try to explain the zombie spawns by revealing that they come from the sewers (something that the player can actually occasionally see if they look at the right time) and can claw up from the ground, but that lore explanation doesn't seem to be enough to stop it from being annoying.
