If there's one thing Dungeons & Dragons is known for, it's the fact that you can play almost anything, especially with the numerous subclasses that are available for each class. However, though there are a lot of options, it doesn't mean that there can't be some subclasses that are missing from the game.

Whether it's a barbarian who doesn't have to rely on magic or a druid who can focus more on spellcasting, there's always something new that can be created. As a result, we've compiled some of the most sought-after subclasses in Dungeons & Dragons, so here is a subclass every class is missing.

10 Tinkerer Artificer

It's High Time We Had Some Gadgets

Artillerist Artificer Art via Wizards of the Coast

Artificers have always been a very interesting concept when it comes to being a class, focusing more on using technology and gadgets coupled with some arcane magic as opposed to powerful spellcasting or divine intervention. However, it's still not enough. That's why artificers need a subclass that is akin to a gadget user.

This subclass would allow you to pick from a list of gadgets and tools, which would then be upgraded as they level up. Similar to a wizard preparing spells, an artificer could switch out their gadgets per long rest to use the right ones for an upcoming adventure.

9 Path Of The Resolute Barbarian

A Non-Magical Subclass Is Needed

Gloom Stalker by Tomas Duchek

For a class so obviously focused on melee combat, it's somewhat odd that a barbarian is the one with a lot of magical subclasses. That's why it would be a good idea to have a non-magical barbarian, perhaps one who is even so opposed to magic that they have some resistance to it or advantage on certain saving throws against spells when they're in a Rage.

But the function of this class would be to provide boons via Charisma, similar to a paladin, with a flavor of being a leader of some kind.

8 Collage Of Muses Bard

Let The Bard Be A Muse

Tavern Bard by Rob Rey

Bards have all sorts of great subclasses. An idea that would be fascinating is a divine-themed subclass, perhaps named "The Muse." They would be a bard focused on healing with access to certain cleric spells as they level up.

This is a bard with a focus more on flavor than function, but having a Bard that could also do more healing than the others and acts as more of a support would be a great addition to the class, too.

7 Cosmic Domain Cleric

A Cosmic Cleric To Remind You Clerics Are Terrifying

The Sundering by Tyler Jacobson

Even though clerics have many different subclasses that focus on the many archetypes that can be worshipped in Dungeons & Dragons and their deities, that doesn't mean they're perfect. One idea for a cleric would be a more eldritch style cosmic cleric who worships the unknown and forces that pertain to the Astral Sea.

These clerics tend to worship and siphon the divinity off dead or unknown Gods, and their subclass would focus on being able to manipulate divine magic, changing the damage type of spells, regenerating a spell slot, and more.

6 Circle Of Blooms Druid

Druids Can Be Spellcasters Too

Doric, Warden Of Nature by Qiya Zhang

If there's one class that desperately needs more subclasses, then it's the druid. Wild Shape has been a curse in disguise in that it's such a good mechanic that making a class not based around it can be difficult. However, that doesn't mean it's impossible, and we should have an elemental druid subclass by now.

This would be for a druid who focuses primarily on spellcasting instead of using Wild Shape to perhaps summon elementals or enhance their spellcasting in some way. They could also be able to cast more spells or have access to another spell list.

5 Way Of The Weave Monk

Sometimes Monks Need A Bit Of Magic

Ki-Fueled Strikes For Tasha's Cauldron to Everything By Sam Keiser

Monks have some of the most interesting and unique subclasses, which vary greatly in quality, so it may be hard to know just what other subclasses they would need. One that would be very useful is a monk who can ignore and harness magic.

Rather than being a spellcaster, they would be able to dispel and resist magic with knowledge of the arcane, meaning more skills and features to identify magic. An enhanced Deflect Missiles feature that works on cantrips or Magic Missile would also work well with this subclass.

4 Tomb Raider Conclave Ranger

Be The Tomb Raider

Secret Door by Francisco Miyara

There are a lot of different niches you can fulfill when it comes to the ranger class and a new subclass for them. But one that hasn't been done before is a true dungeon-delving ranger, one that is focused on tomb raiding and treasure hunting.

They would have more skill proficiencies, get more languages learned, and perhaps can choose another favored terrain, the underground, and get a thieves' tool proficiency to disarm traps.

3 Surgeon Rogue

Doctors Are Good With Knives Too

Half Elf Rogue by Daniel Castiblanco

It may sound a little silly, but there is a good precedent for a healer-based rogue. Although it wouldn't be as strong as a life cleric, it would be a good way to introduce a main non-magical healer, and the perfect idea to flavor this is a Surgeon.

They would know all the right areas to strike from a sneak attack and could cause lingering injuries to enemies in combat while being able to heal party members with poultices and an enhanced healer's kit.

2 Arcane Soul Sorcerer

Imagine A Sorcerer Born Of Arcana

Dungeons and Dragons Strixhaven Curriculum of Chaos via Wizards of the Coast

There is so much potential for different kinds of sorcerers, and Wizards Of The Coast clearly knows this with the numerous new subclasses that have come out. However, Sorcerers tend to always be compared to wizard, so perhaps an arcane sorcerer would make the most sense.

A sorcerer who gets his or her powers from the raw force of the weave could have access to more spells, heal from force damage, and manipulate other spells further, perhaps with access to unique metamagic options.

1 Parasitic Host Warlock

Feel Venomous With This Warlock Subclass

Tasha, the Witch Queen by Martina Fackova

Warlocks are unique when it comes to their subclass because it's less about their practice and more so about the characters themselves and raising the question why they made a pact with the entity that they did.

One idea for a pact is a symbiote, hosting a powerful entity that is able to act as some kind of armor. It could be a more melee-focused build for the warlock similar to hexblade, but instead of a weapon they would be using unarmed attacks.
