We have Pokemon to thank for popularizing the idea of looking for fantastical monsters that can destroy entire zip codes and forcing them to fight for us… otherwise, we wouldn't have Creatures Of Ava. Inverge Studios has gone the conservation route when it comes to the monster-taming idea, by making it so that you have to tame monsters to conserve them.

Experience the thrills, chills, and sometimes cozy vibes when urban legends make their way into video games.
PostsYou play Vic, a scientist sent to the alien planet of Ava to save the various species from an invasive growth known as the Withering. You'll come to see multiple regions and multiple creatures within each, but some of them are just the best, and you'll see why.
8 Kraj
The Little Dino-Bunny Buddies!
CloseI never imagined I would see a herd of T-Rexes. Luckily, the Kraj are a bit smaller.
- Dr. Michel Dupont, Biologist
It's no wonder that these guys are the face of the game, because how could you not want to pet them? The Kraj is some kind of combination between rabbits and dinosaurs that are small enough to be dogs and are just as playful. You can find them roaming around the Grasslands usually in groups of two or three.
They're not particularly aggressive and are quite capable co-op partners with their little bite attack and the ability to travel through tunnels. They also have some hard-headed cousins in the Swamps that can break rocks but are still as cute.
7 Ura
The Song Of The Trumpet Horses!
CloseA good mug of Ura milk every morning and your wards will grow up healthy and strong.
- Sebb'ti, Naam Shepherd
The biggest crime that this game makes is that you can't ride any of the creatures, especially ones as majestic as the Ura. These graceful creatures seem to be a cross between a horse and deer while also being the most domesticated as seen by the Naam ranches, pens, and stables.
The Ura have cute trumpet-like heads and delicate-looking frames, but don't let that fool you. These guys can hit pretty hard and you'll need their help if you want to break through the pesky fungus that's grown all over the Grasslands.
6 Zard
Strong-backed lizard hounds!
CloseAn evolutionary. It has evolved powerful claws for hunting, but also a fiery spit typical of defensive animals.
- Dr. Michel Dupont, Biologist
If there's one creature that always looks tired, then it's the Zard and that's not a bad thing. They're one of the first creatures you encounter in the Jungle and look like they're in a constant state of needing a coffee. They're also kind of ornery, making aggressive sounds if you decide to invade their space.

When all else fails, you can always run and hide from these unbeatable monstrosities.
Posts 1Once befriended, though, they're calm and casual guys that look like large, rounded, and smooth lizards. They can break down bridges for you and can even navigate the Tarzan-like creeper vines to reveal new paths for you to explore with your new buddy.
5 Yekembo
Giant walking fungus friends!
CloseHere we find a great symbiosis between animal and flower. This may boost the field of human medicine...
- Dr. Jeremiah Kratevas, Pharmacologist
The final creature that you'll encounter in the Jungle is the mighty Yekembo, something that looks like a rhinoceros hippo with an ecosystem on its back. These are large fungal growths that can shoot out spores in an artillery fashion to stick you in place if you cause them too much bother.
Whether they're tame or infected, these guys can charge around and break both walls and columns. You'll wanna get close to these guys simply because they're so big and look like they could use a hug, but also to ask for their help in moving blocks around.
4 Shum
It's a huggable butterfly bird!
CloseWhat kind of MORON doesn't like the Shum? Get outta here.
- Ucup, Young Naam
One of the few flying creatures in the game, the Shum is more on the insect side of appearances but is still shaped like a friend. They also seem to have some hummingbird features thrown in with their long snouts and lose dangling appendages to feed and cuddle.
They bounce merrily through the air when they're flying and can do a spiral spin launch to open up flowers to get across the poisonous waters of the Swamp. However, since it's poisonous itself, it's right at home there and can make it feel like home to you too.
3 Raga
The poisonous hawk raptor gang!
CloseWhen a Raga walks, its broad tail sways with the rhythm of Ava.
- Gren'ar, Naam Shaman
Of all the creatures you encountered before, the Raga is the first one that truly looks like it could be dangerous… and that's why it's so cool! When you enter the Swamp, you may as well be entering the prehistoric area with these guys walking around. They're colorful raptors with arm and tail flaps.
Related10 Horror Game Protagonists Who Were Scarier Than The Monsters
Sometimes, the most terrifying thing in video games isn't the creature you're fighting or running from. It's you.
PostsHowever, they're also poisonous and will attack you if you get too close with a leaping purple slash or by spitting at you. When they're by your side, they can leap to new heights to discover hidden treasures, tunnel around, and break bridges.
2 Ashur
It's a hammer-head dog companion!
CloseAn extraordinary species. Its antlers form a distinct double hammer. It is often VERY upset.
- Dr. Michel Dupont, Biologist
Let's just cut to the chase: Imagine a large soft dog with a hammer on its head. By doing that, you've set the groundwork for the Ashur. Bigger than a great Dane but just loving and friendly, these guys may not have fur, but they're still smooth and fun to pet.
They're also surprisingly big and can be quite tough in battle, leaping through the air and making sticky shockwaves. After becoming friends, these guys can walk or trot around to knock down pillars or unearth treasures with sheer head-slamming force.
1 Ran
It's An Alien T-Rex!
CloseThe Ran aren't aggressive, just nervous.
- Ul'ar, Master Shepherd
If you ran away after seeing a Ran for the first time, that would be understandable. The creature shares a lot of qualities with a T-Rex, but who wouldn't want to tame a T-Rex if given the chance? These guys are mighty and massive, being able to charge around and launch inky projectiles with a tail whip.
By soothing them and seeing through their eyes, you can lumber around and break anything to help you through the ruins. It's also adorable how Vic plays with the Ran by imitating them and then blowing a kiss to the giant beast's utter delight.
