In the northeast corner of the room, you'll find a lockbox that requires a code to be opened. The nearby diary entry suggests entering Bernard's birth year as the code.

The dog tags on the table near the lamp reveal that Bernard enlisted in the year 1914, while the posters on the wall reveal that Bernard is 19 years old. This information reveals that the code for the lockbox is 1895. Open the box to retrieve the empty Lighter.

How To Use The Lighter

The Lighter becomes functional after combining it with the Lighter Fluid. However, before you can light a fire, you'll also need some Fuel. Fuel can be found lying around and can be purchased from the Merchant.

Using Fuelwill lay down a patch of oil that can be ignited with the Lighter. The flames are primarily used to burn corpses, but they can also be used as traps for enemies giving chase.

The Lighter is also used to burn the rope on the door in the Emergency Control room, granting access to the Ruined Blockhouse. In this room, you'll find the Supply Trench key.
