Verso has a lot of great build options in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 thanks to his huge arsenal of swords. Weapons can dramatically change how a character plays, and Verso has access to some really exciting loadouts, especially late in the game.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - Best Maelle Build

Maelle is Clair Obscur's ultimate damage-dealer by the end of the game.

As it turns out, you can deal massive amounts of passive damage via Burn as Verso, eclipsing even Maelle and Lune. Working together with the rest of the team, Verso can rack up multiple hundreds of Burn stacks on a target, turning their health bar to ash in no time. Here's how to do it.

Best Weapon And Attributes For Verso

The key to Verso's Burn build is equipping him with the sword Corpeso. This Fire-elemental blade lets him apply Burn based on his Perfection Rank whenever he lands a Base Attack. Since its scaled Attributes are Vitality and Agility, be sure to max out those two first before putting points into a third.

A high Agility means Verso will act more often in combat, leading to more Burn overall. You can help speed him up further by putting the remaining points into Luck, which slightly increases Speed as well as Critical Rate.

Corpeso Traits (At Level 20+)

  • Verso's Base Attacks apply 2 Burn to the target for each Perfection Rank Verso has (meaning on S Rank he'll apply 10 Burn per hit).
  • Verso gains 1 AP whenever his Perfection Rank increases.
  • Enemies take 50% more Burn damage for every Perfection Rank Verso has. This means that at Rank S, enemies take four times the usual Burn damage!

Since Verso can apply so much Burn and increase the damage that it deals, look for ways to pair him with other party members to take advantage of this. For example, Maelle's Burning Canvas deals more damage based on the number of Burn Stacks on the target; if that number is in the hundreds, Maelle's already-prodigious damage output skyrockets.

Best Skills For Verso

Since this build relies primarily on Base Attacks, Skills are secondary. However, you'll still want to have some key options for emergencies and specific situations.

From Fire lets Verso take a break from lighting enemies on fire to get a minor heal, provided his target is already Burning. If you don't have any Burning targets, or if you need a bigger heal, Perfect Recovery restores more Health and removes status effects at the same time.

Assault Zero can help Verso increase his Perfection Rank quickly. It becomes less useful as Verso's level gets into the 80s and 90s, though, as he'll have enough Lumina Points by then that he can use rapid-fire Free Aim shots for largely the same effect.

It pays to always have at least one Breaking Skill, and Perfect Break is easily the best in Verso's arsenal. While it can be tempting to just equip the Breaking Attack Lumina and keep swinging with Base Attacks to Break enemies, Perfect Break takes Verso straight to S Rankwhen it Breaks a foe, making it a very efficient choice in combination with Corpeso.

Like Sciel's Rush, it can pay to have Verso open a fight with Powerful to give the team an attack buff. Your last slot can be whichever Skill you like; we picked Steeled Strike for our build, as it offers a powerful single hit that combos well with the Cheater Pictos

Best Pictos And Lumina For Verso

Close

Just like the rest of the team, Verso should have Cheater and Second Chance equipped as soon as he has the Lumina Points to pay for them. A free revive and double turns is too good to pass up, especially when it doubles the amount of Burn that he can inflict.

Speaking of which, Double Burn is critical for this build, allowing Verso to apply 20 Burn per hit at S Rank. Combine it with Longer Burn to extend their duration by two turns, and Corpeso's passive powers will do the rest.

The keys to this build, though, are the Combo Attack Luminas. Equip Verso with as many as you can find; each one lets him strike one additional time with his Base Attack, applying more Burn through Corpeso each time. Even better, if Verso's Rank increases in the middle of the combo, the subsequent hits will apply the new, higher Burn amount as a result.

Any Lumina with "Attack" in its name also enhances Base Attacks, making them good picks for this build as well since that's how Verso will spend most of his turns.

Finally, take Luminas like Augmented Aim, Marking Shots, and Burning Shots. When Verso's turn comes up, unload all of his AP into Free Aim shots at your target before unleashing his Base Attack Combo. Not only does this potentially Mark them and add extra Burn stacks, but it also pushes Verso's Perfection Rank up with each successful shot, letting Corpeso work more effectively on the actual attack.
