Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is filled to the brim with unique characters. While some of them can be friendly, others are waiting to best you in battle. The optional boss Chromatic Jar is one such enemy. While it's not the most daunting enemy Expedition 33 will face, it is a formidable opponent that will challenge your reflexes and combat skills.

The Chromatic Abbest is one of the biggest challenges you'll stumble across in the first hours of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
PostsChromatic Jar can be found as you traverse through the Continent, around the beginning of Act 2. Since the boss has quite a few weaknesses and predictable attack patterns, it won't take you more than a few tries to succeed.
Where To Find Chromatic Jar
Once you stumble upon the Gestral Village, Chromatic Jar won't be too far off. To the west of the village, you'll notice a little island to the southwest of White Tree's location. To reach this point, you'll need to ride Esquie across the waters and keep swimming until you are on the shore.
Chromatic Jar will be sitting alone, so you won't have to worry about dealing with enemies around it. It's recommended that you set up your party members and skills beforehand. Otherwise, you'll be triggering the fight almost immediately after reaching the shore, unprepared for the fight.
Along with the materials (for upgrade) you find in this area and fight, also look for an extra Colour of Lumina.
How To Defeat Chromatic Jar
On the surface, this boss has predictable attacks, but some of them can be tough to counter due to the speed at which they take place. For instance, the four spins during Chromatic Jar's combo phase can be extremely tricky to parry or dodge.
Attack
Description
How to Counter
Performs a smashing combo
Does a five-hit combo that damages the entire party.
Dodge or parry the first staff slam attacks, and jump over the two shockwaves as the combo progresses.
Smashes the ground
Slams the staff on the ground, doing AoE damage.
Jump right before the staff hits the ground.
Performs a combo
Does a six-hit combo to a single target. Spins four times and slams the staff twice.
There are four spins, each countered with a parry or dodge once the boss jumps forward. Next, parry or dodge the two jumping slam attacks the moment the staff member is about to hit any member.
Since Chromatic Jar has only three attacks, they can be predicted after a few turns. However, they happen randomly, so you need to watch out for visual and audio cues. The boss is weak to every element except Dark and Light, which can be used against it.
Keep in mind that there are no Pictos to be gained from this fight, but you will earn Level 13 Jarum upon defeating Chromatic Jar. This weapon is specifically designed for Maelle. Treat this fight as a boss parry and dodge practice, rather than something you use to upgrade your characters.
Team Setup And Strategy
Chromatic Jar's weaknesses can be exploited by most of the characters, but Lune, Maelle and Sciel will keep you at an advantage.
Keep in mind that Lune and Maelle are your damage-dealers for this fight, while Sciele can provide some healing and extra damage.
- Lune's elemental attacks can stack up consistent damage against Chromatic Jar. Use skills like Wildfire, Hell, and Immolation to apply Burn, so that it stacks up on Chromatic Jar during each turn. If you get this right, the fight will be over within a minute or two without any problems!
- For Maelle, use Spark to apply some Burn damage, and focus onusing Swift Stride to get her into the Virtuose Stance. This will apply 200 percent damage to her attacks, and you need to repeat this process to keep her damage output consistently strong.
- With Sciel, it's tough to get a balance between her elemental attacks, so use the Chation weapon to apply Burn to Chromatic Jar. Skills like Twilight Dance and Sealed Fate can do some damage to the boss, but it's recommended that you keep Sciel's role as a support character during this fight.
Alternatively, if you're feeling confident, you can replace Sciel with Verso. However, you will need Verso to parry or dodge every single attack, since his performance and damage output build up the more hits he deals. Verso's best builds usually focus on fast-hitting combos and perfecting his base damage.
Sciel's Plentiful Harvest is an excellent skill to use when healing the party. However, her attacks may not do much against Chromatic Jar.
