In a recent poll that was put together by Famitsu, Japanese gamers voted Chrono Trigger as the game that they most want to see a remake or remaster of, with a new entry in the series being slightly less desired.

If you ask someone what the greatest RPG of all time is, there's a very good chance that, as long as they don't say something like Final Fantasy 7 or any of the Dragon Quest games, they'll point to Chrono Trigger. Square's beloved 1995 RPG is often regarded as a timeless classic of the genre, and something that fans really want to see make a return.

Strangely, outside of some ports to consoles like the DS and PC, Chrono Trigger is one of the few highly-requested classic games that has yet to return, and only saw an unrelated sequel in 1999 called Chrono Cross. All these years later, everyone's still begging for a Chrono Trigger remake, which makes its placement in a recent poll very unsurprising.

Famitsu Poll Has Chrono Trigger As The Most Requested Gaming Remake

Recent Reports Have Suggested It's Already In The Works

As pointed out by Nintendo Everything, Famitsu recently held a nationwide survey that asked gamers to share their opinions on various topics to celebrate its 40th anniversary. One of the most interesting topics was regarding which game or series they'd most like to see remastered or remade in the future.

As you've probably figured out by now, Chrono Trigger has taken the number one spot on that list, with Xenogears following it in second, and Pokemon Black and White in third place. Final Fantasy 8 comes just short of getting the bronze medal, with Tales of the Abyss and Persona 2 coming up just after it.

This poll also revealed that Japanese gamers consider Final Fantasy the most influential gaming series, even if Cloud isn't the overall favourite character.

What's especially interesting about this poll is that Chrono Trigger makes an appearance in the results of the series they most want a new entry in, but is nowhere near the top, as it only secured 12th place. That suggests that, as beloved as Chrono Trigger is, players really just want to see a shiny version of the original instead of a new take on the series.
