Everyone has a favorite video game character, and I would never talk down any of them, but let’s be honest, a lot of characters are kinda… incredibly cheesy. Even absolute icons of gaming are cheesier than a bag of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. What qualifies as cheesy may differ for some people, but you probably already have more than a few characters in mind.

There’s no shame in a character being cheesy. Most of them are human, and we’re all cheesy people. Some just wear their cheese on their sleeves, and we love them for it. Incredible one-liners, goofy actions, and pure chaos are all found within the hearts of the cheesiest characters in gaming.

10 Leon Kennedy - The Village One-Liner

To give the man some credit, more than a few of his cheesy moments could go on a list like this, but that one joke from the opening village section of Resident Evil 4 will always stay with fans. It’s one of the most popular lines from this game for a reason.

After you’ve gone through everything the game can throw at you literally ten minutes after playing it for the first time, all the enemies flee, leaving Leon alone. His only response? "Where’s everyone going? Bingo?" Oh, Leon…

9 Tingle - Joyful Dancing

The existence of Tingle is probably cheesy enough in itself, but the fairy-loving man just oozes cheese. From his general appearance to the hilarious screams of excitement he lets out, Tingle is one of the funniest characters from the Zelda series.

His cheesiest moment can actually be experienced in almost all of his appearances, as it’s definitely the joyful little jig he does when he’s excited. It’s the kind of thing only someone as awkward as Tingle would do, and that’s exactly why we all love him.

8 Luigi - Super Luigi

A lot of people can completely miss out on the sheer hilarity that is the tales of Super Luigi from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Luigi is another character with a long history of cheese, but those stories might just take the cake.

The whole point of them is to tell the story of what Luigi has been up to while Mario is out on his adventures. The stories are overly exaggerated messes, exactly what we all expect from Luigi. Only someone as cheesy as him would publish fake stories so that he wouldn’t feel left out.

7 Sans - The Puns

You might love puns or you might hate them, but wherever you fall personally, most people can agree that they are the cheesiest form of humor. The hilarious little icon from Undertale that is Sans is well known for his dorky puns throughout the game's fantastic story.

Seeing Sans and Papyrus bicker back and forth, only for Sans to drop the supreme pun that is him doing a skele-ton of work before literally winking at you is absolute gold. It’s a cheesy moment, but one that probably had everyone letting out a chuckle whether you wanted to or not.

6 Claptrap - The Birthday Party

Good ole Claptrap, the dorkish punching bag of the Borderlands series. The poor little robot has gone through his fair share of hardships, some (maybe most) of which were definitely deserved, and one of those moments is his birthday party side quest from Borderlands 2.

The robot not only goes through the effort to put on a party that no one aside from his minions shows up to, but he also basically forces you to stay there until he’s decided that the embarrassment is enough. His attempts to make the most of the situation, but ends up making the entire side mission awkwardly cheesy.

5 Albert Wesker - Chris? Stop it!

You could easily put Wesker’s entire existence on a list like this, but one moment manages to stand above all the others. The original Resident Evil is a masterpiece of cheese, and Wesker might just take the cake (if it weren’t for one other character).

In the final section of the game, while playing as Chris, Wesker unveils his “ultimate lifeform” Tyrant, causing his foe to laugh before he delivers the fantastic line, “Chris? Stop it!” It’s clearly meant to be serious, but the line delivery is so awkward that it leaves Wesker looking like an embarrassed child in the funniest way possible.

4 Yusuke Hanamura - “Motorcycles” For Girls

Thinking about what Persona 4 Golden’s Yusuke Hanamura would have been like if the protagonist didn’t roll into town is chilling. He’s a cheesy, dorky, and a bit of a pervy kid and his drive to get girls is only added to his cheese factor.

His cheesiest moment has to be everything surrounding the “motorcycles.” There are quotes around that word because what they actually get are scooters, something that Yusuke is convinced will get them girls. Aside from that being the most Yusuke thing ever, pretty much everyone knew it wasn’t going to work out for the blonde-haired anime boy.

3 Commander Shepard - Busting A Move

Considering the Mass Effect series is basically a giant sci-fi epic, the melodrama oozes from the game in many instances. The protagonist, Commander Shepard, has their fair share of cheesy moments and one-liners, but the cheesiest is whenever the hero busts a move.

Shepard’s awkward dance moves have become a thing of legend, and for some people (like me), the moves are just all too real. Even the other characters know how weird and cheesy Shepard is every time they start to dance, and they take every opportunity possible to point that out.

2 Barry Burton - Jill Sandwich

Albert Wesker may very well be Resident Evil’s cheesiest villain, but our main man Barry Burton is easily the cheesiest hero from the franchise. This entry really needs no explanation for anyone who’s ever experienced a few minutes of Barry.

His cheesy lines are a thing of legend, whether it’s him talking about Jill, The Master Of Unlocking, or quipping about her almost becoming a Jill sandwich, Barry basks in his cheesiness like it’s an art form. He’s not the cheesy hero we wanted, but he is the one we never knew we needed.

1 Shadow The Hedgehog - His Entire Solo Game

The sheer edge-lord energy that Shadow The Hedgehog brings with him every time he’s on-screen is precisely what makes him so cheesy. In this absolute gem of Sonic gaming, Shadow does the unthinkable, like using actual guns, and karate-chopping keyboards.

At one point, the emo hedgehog delivers this iconic line, “This is like taking candy from a baby, which is fine by me.” Somehow, that is exactly what everyone would expect Shadow to say, and you don’t even need the context of the scene to believe that.
