Happy New Year!
Nothing is better than celebrating the start of a new year with your loved ones. And what better way is there to kick off our next three hundred sixty-five days than by watching the New Year’s Eve Ball Drop?

Unfortunately, some characters might be a little too tired to stay up all night. Sometimes, the need for one's daily z’s outweighs the need to watch a giant ball fall for ten seconds. It’s not that they don’t want to celebrate New Year’s Eve, it’s just that these sleepy characters would prefer to do it after getting their eight hours.
10 Ash Ketchum
Ash Ketchum is the cheerful main character from the Pokemon animated series who has traveled from region to region for over a decade. He’s even a certified Pokemon Champion! Unfortunately, Ash has a habit of oversleeping and missing important events. Even if he does set an alarm to wake himself up, Ash would probably (and accidentally) end up breaking his clock.
Although Ash would want to celebrate New Year’s Eve with his friends and Pokemon, the pull of his pillow and blanket would be too strong for him to ignore. At least he’ll still get to have fun on New Year’s Day.
9 Link
We all know Link as the courageous hero in green who saves Princess Zelda and Hyrule from doom. However, most of Link’s journeys begin with a character yelling at him to wake up. Once Link is awake, he’ll stay awake. But, if left to his own devices with no fairies, family members, or disembodied voices serving as an alarm, Link would still be in bed.

Of course, with the amount of running around Link will probably have to do during the new year, maybe it's best that he sits New Year’s Eve out. Hopefully, no one gets captured while he’s in dreamland.
8 Kirby
Speaking of Dreamland, Kirby is a character who would definitely fall asleep during the New Year’s Eve Ball Drop. In fact, they would probably copy the Sleep ability and then upgrade it to the Deep Sleep ability from Kirby and the Forgotten Land so that they can maximize their rest time.
Though Kirby will gladly come to the New Year’s Eve watch party, once they’re done dancing with the Waddle Dees and eating yummy cakes they'll head to back to dreamland. The sleepy one, not the one on Planet Popstar.
7 Sora
It’s not that Sora would want to miss the New Year’s Eve Ball Drop. Heck, he’d probably be the host of the New Year’s Eve viewing party. It’s just that Sora is a bit of a sleepyhead. A sleepyhead who has consistently fallen into a deep sleep throughout the Kingdom Hearts series. Sora was literally dreaming all throughout Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days and Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance. That’s two whole games!
Sora might be the one throwing the party, but he’ll be the first to fall asleep before the night ends. With any luck, one of his friends (or one of his other selves) will wake him up on New Year's Day.
6 Ichiban Kasuga
Normally, a character like Ichiban Kasuga wouldn’t make this list. Throughout Yakuza: Like A Dragon, Kasuga has proved himself to be an empathetic go-getter who doesn’t hesitate when opportunity comes knocking at his door. Unfortunately, he just so happened to fall asleep during New Year’s Eve at the start of the game. One could almost say that this impromptu nap outside led to the events of the story unfolding.
Though Kasuga started snoozing only after the clock struck 12, if he was just a little more tired he might have fallen asleep even earlier and missed the ball entirely.
5 Linhardt
Linhardt is a member of the Black Eagles class from Fire Emblem: Three Houses and would willingly miss the New Year’s Eve watch party. After all, why party when you can nap? Linhardt is best characterized as having a one-track mind when it comes to the things that he likes and having the ability to sleep anywhere at any time.
Unless the New Year’s Eve Ball happens to have a hidden Crest inside of it, Linhardt would sleep through this celebration and start the new year (slightly) refreshed and ready to study.
4 Alear
Speaking of drowsy characters, Fire Emblem Engage's Alear also joins the sleepy list. This dual-haired protagonist from Elyos has been asleep for a thousand years. You know what that means? That means that they have already slept through a thousand New Year’s Eves. And they may very well be asleep for one more if they accidentally tire themselves out before the ball drops.
Coincidentally, a lot of the divine beings from the Fire Emblem series have a habit of oversleeping. Perhaps if all these continents can stop in-fighting for two seconds, maybe their deities can finally find a way to correct their messy sleep schedules.
3 Snorlax
The Pokemon franchise has a lot of sleepy ‘mons that you can catch and there’s no denying that the sleepiest one of them all is Snorlax. This lovable giant is known for taking long naps in inconvenient places and only responding to a wake-up call in the form of a Poke Flute tune.

Snorlax will show up to the New Year’s Eve party, eat all the hors d'oeuvres, then fall asleep blocking the exit. But as long as no one leaves before the ball drops, you can let Snorlax relax for a while. Just make sure you have your Poke Flute with you when people start putting on their coats.
2 Phyllis
The Animal Crossing series is known for its cast of adorable animal villagers, whose personalities range from peppy to lazy. However, it is not the lazy villagers who will be missing this year’s ball drop. Instead, it will be Animal Crossing’s crankiest, and probably most sleep-deprived character, Phyllis. Phyllis is a pelican who ran the Post Office at night back before New Horizons switched to postcards. Phyllis is depicted as sarcastic, rude, and running on black coffee that she bought from Brewster. But honestly, as a morning bird forced to work the late shift, Phyllis deserves some rest.
If Phyllis doesn’t need to work the night of New Year’s Eve, you can bet your golden shovel that she'll be asleep before the clock strikes twelve.
1 Hypnos
Not only will Hypnos be asleep during the ball drop, but he’ll also be asleep at the New Year's Eve party, the pre-party, and even two days before the party. Hypnos is an employee at the house of Hades often found napping when he is supposed to be working. However, it’s hard to stay mad at his need for z’s when he’s literally Sleep Incarnate. If it wasn’t for the constant flow of shades, Hypnos would be fast asleep in the staff lounge.
Maybe it is best that he takes New Year’s Eve off. After all, if he's asleep that means that no one is… well, visiting Hades on such a festive day.
