The Call of Duty series contains plenty of characters. Some are nice, honorable people, while others are ruthless killers. Sandman from Modern Warfare 3 is certainly among the good guys. Yet, he is more mysterious than the likes of Captain Price and Soap because he doesn't get nearly as much screen time.

Ever wondered if the Call of Duty games follow a timeline? They do! Here are all Call of Duty games in order.
Posts 1After all, he only appears in one entry in the series. In fact, he doesn't even appear in the rebooted version of Modern Warfare 3. He is only in the original version, but he still makes an impact in what little time he has. Here are some things you should know about him.
Sandman's Personality
Modern Warfare 3 doesn't dive too deep into Sandman as a character, meaning it's hard to get to know him really well. But you do get enough time with him to see what sort of man he is.
He is a leader. The guy continually gives his team orders throughout the game. Yet, he's not just barking at them from afar. He's leading from the front and guiding his team. Plus, he's more encouraging than mean.
Another important aspect of his personality is his bravery. Sandman is not afraid of putting his life on the line for his men or his country. He charges into dangerous situations and attempts to sacrifice himself on multiple occasions.
To put it simply, he is a true hero.
Who Sandman Works For
In the Modern Warfare games, most of the main characters on the protagonist's side are part of Task Force 141. Yet, this is not the case for Sandman. Despite working closely with the Task Force, he's only an ally to them, not a member.
He's actually a part of Delta Force. They're an elite U.S. Army unit focused on counter-terrorism and special operations. Sandman is the leader of Delta Force's Team Metal, which also contains Frost, Grinch, and Truck.
Together, they fight in World War 3 against the Russian Army.
Sandman's Fate
Unfortunately, Sandman doesn't make it through Modern Warfare 3 unscathed. In the penultimate mission, he's part of an operation to rescue the Russian President from a diamond mine. Both Delta Force and Task Force 141 are on the mission, so you know how important it is.
During it, they manage to reach the President and get him on an escape chopper. Team Metal protects the vehicle as the others get on. However, RPG fire forces the helicopter to ascend out of the mine early. Price wants them to return to save Sandman and the rest of the crew. Sandman tells them not to, though, because it's too dangerous. The chopper pilot agrees, and they're forced to leave them.
You don't actually see Team Metal die, but it seems unlikely that they'd made their way out of there, especially as the mine collapsed. And there has been no indication of their survival since. So, the assumption is that Sandman died a hero.
