We already know that the 2024 Call of Duty title will be in the Black Ops franchise and set in the Gulf War. We also know that 2025's annual entry will likely be a sequel to Black Ops 2, at least according to leaker Tom Henderson. Now, thanks to a new leak, we might also know what games are rumoured to be coming out in 2026 and 2027.

According to leaker Visceral, 2026's title is codenamed Project Devilwood and will be a Ghosts title developed by Infinity Ward. Meanwhile, 2027's title, which is in development by Sledgehammer, is codenamed Project Anvil, and it will be an Advanced Warfare title.

Wait, Ghosts Is Coming Back?

If you don't remember Call of Duty: Ghosts, we don't blame you. Its most noteworthy aspects were the memes coming out of its E3 presentation.

Ghosts, which was released in 2013, was developed by Infinity Ward -- its first non-Modern Warfare title in years. It came out on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and even the Wii U, while also serving as a launch title for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The team touted features like a playable dog and an AI system that had fish moving out of the way underwater. Yes, you read that right.

The game was largely panned by critics on release, though it did sell moderately well and got DLC post launch. If you polled fans on which dormant series would get a sequel, Ghosts would probably be at the bottom of the list.

Press "F" To Pay Respects

If you ever wondered where the infamous "Press 'F' To Pay Respects" meme came from, it's from Advanced Warfare. The 2014 game was the first Call of Duty title by Sledgehammer and featured a customizable exoskeleton suit.

Its campaign was particularly noteworthy as Troy Baker voiced the main character and Kevin Spacey played the villain. It was also noteworthy because its playable pay respects moment was genuinely hilarious.

Memes aside, Advanced Warfare was reviewed well, with many praising its storyline and voice acting. In many ways, it was a step up from Ghosts and set up Sledgehammer to be a key part of the Call of Duty franchise moving forward. A sequel, keeping many of the campaign elements like its predecessor, would likely be welcomed by longtime fans.

For now, these are just rumours. But if these two titles do end up making a return, then let's hope some new memes can come with them too. Here's to using the DualSense's touchpad to make a salute and even better fish AI.
