Summary

  • After five years, Verdansk has finally returned to Call of Duty: Warzone.
  • The event has been a huge hit with fans and lapsed players alike, but many are worried about when Verdansk will be replaced with a new map.
  • As it turns out, Activision has plans to keep Verdansk around, and even iterate upon it to make for a "better experience".

I have to admit, one of my fondest memories of being stuck indoors during lockdown was playing an ungodly amount of Call of Duty: Warzone, learning every back alley and sniper spot across Verdansk, dropping into stadium just to die over and over again, certain — with undeserved confidence — that this time it would work out.

Earlier this month, Activision finally brought the fan-favourite map back to celebrate its fifth anniversary, and walking through those war-torn streets all these years later, clambering up apartments to shotgun whoever's lurking on the rooftops, has been incredibly nostalgic. The map is every bit as good as we remember it. And that's a sentiment shared by much of the community, as the game has seen a huge resurgence in players. But how long before Verdansk is gone again?

Insiders claimed last month that if Return to Verdansk failed, there would be no Season 3.

Speaking in an interview with IGN, game director Pete Actipis teased that it's here to stay. "We brought Verdansk back for a reason," he said. "It wasn't just to bring it back for a season and kind of say goodbye to it again. A lot of effort went into it. So, for the time being, Verdansk is sticking around, and this is just the beginning of the Verdansk 2025 journey, and then we'll see how things go from there."

Activision Plans To Keep Making Verdansk "Better"

Verdansk

It's good news for lapsed Warzone fans who haven't enjoyed the last handful of maps that have launched alongside Vanguard and Modern Warfare 3. But not only is Verdansk not going anywhere, Activision plans to iterate and improve upon the map for the forseeable future.

We wanted to create the best version of Verdansk possible.

"No confirmation or anything on the strategy of the maps moving forward, but we love Verdansk," Actipis added. "It was a nostalgic map that we loved and it's fun to play on, and so we just want to keep investing on it and continue to make it a better experience for our players moving forward for at least the time being."
