Cyberpunk 2077 is getting some widely requested features, including a fully functional metro system. As of version 2.1, players looking for more immersion will be able to ride the metro in real-time, rather than just rely on fast travel points to get around.

This will give you a chance to try out another new feature - a portable radio. Finally, we'll be able to listen to tunes outside of vehicles, so you won't have to hang out in your car when you've already reached your destination.

This was just revealed in a livestream going over some of the biggest features in the version 2.1 update. All in all, it seems that the next patch is focused on improving immersion, letting you fully roleplay as a Night City resident.

The metro system has been a widely requested feature among fans for some time, so much so that it was even modded into the game two years ago. CD Projekt Red has previously said there were no plans to add it to the game, but it seems that it came around to the idea eventually. However, in the livestream, the devs hint that it will be more than just an extended loading screen to get to your location, suggesting that there will be some activities to get up to onboard the metro. They wouldn't say what this will entail, though.

Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a new physical release, packaged with Phantom Liberty. This will be exclusive to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and launched on the same day as the new update on December 5.

Also revealed in the stream is the portable radio system. This means we'll be able to tune in to any of the radio stations no matter where we are - which is handy because we don't spend all that much time in vehicles anyway. The only restriction is that when there's something important happening, the radio will automatically turn itself off. As quest director Paweł Sasko says when explaining the feature, the team didn't want Ponpon Shit by the Us Cracks to play when Jackie is bleeding out. It would take away from the moment a bit, I fear.

Cyberpunk 2077 version 2.1 is set to go live on December 5, so this coming Tuesday. On top of the metro and radio features, we'll also get new vehicles dotted around the map, including more bikes - the best vehicles in the game, of course. There will also be a new highway, so we have a place to use these cars and bikes without crashing into a wall.

If you're looking for something a bit more hardcore, then you're in luck. The Adam Smasher boss fight is getting some huge buffs, in a bid to make him more like his Edgerunners counterpart. This comes after Sasko spotted fans making fun of Smasher being too easy to beat in the base game, so be careful what you wish for.
