The Goat and the Lamb are not just partners in crime, but they’re competitors too, racing through room after room to try and get the advantage over the other. You can be cooperative with each other, but there’s also an inherent power struggle that would be really difficult to try and ignore. With Cult of the Lamb’s co-op, it’s good to know what you’re getting into.

7 Be The First One To Do Everything

First Come, First Serve

This is where the competitive aspect of Cult of the Lamb’s co-op comes into play. If you're the first through the door, you’re the one who gets to be in charge of dialogue progression and what path you take at the end of each set of chambers.

If you’re the first to initiate dialogue, you also get to be in charge of who gets what. While it greatly behooves you to work with your cult-leading partner, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t that baseline of competition. It encourages you to move through each chamber faster and really speeds up how long each run lasts.

The only thing that isn’t really shared or a fight to get first are the fleeces - unfortunately, the Goat is stuck with the purple fleece while the lamb gets to pick whatever fleece they want.

6 Mine Resources Faster

Those Large Rocks And Trees At Base Are Done For

Normally, it takes several followers, plus yourself, and a lot of time to get through those massive resources back at camp. Of course, with a bit of elbow grease, it’s perfectly feasible to get through them by yourself, but you’re going to be sitting there for a while.

Between two players, however, you should have a really easy time clearing out your base from debris and keeping it clean. Just be aware that the Lamb and the Goat can’t get too far away from each other - it’s best to stick close together while you work.

The best materials that you should aim to mine together are the massive rock piles and the giant trees. These normally take forever to get through on your own, even with the help of your cult members, so having two dedicated leaders will make things a breeze.

5 Twice The Knucklebones Brainpower

Ratau Never Stood A Chance

Yes, you can actually play Knucklebones against your co-op partner, but you can’t actually bet any gold on it. As such, it’s best to turn both of your skills against the NPCs who are up for playing. Although NPCs like Ratau aren’t particularly difficult to win against, when the game starts getting harder, it’s good to have a second opinion on where to place the dice you’ve rolled.

They do say that two heads are better than one, and in the case of Knucklebones that has never been truer. Consult with each other for the best strategy if you're struggling, or pass the controller back and forth between every roll. Once you've figured out who has the better luck between the two of you, put down as much gold as you want to take the entire pot home.

4 Resurrect The Other During Combat

More Than One Heart

Playing in co-op gives you multiple chances, assuming that at least one of you is pretty decent at not taking an extraordinary amount of damage. So long as one player has at least more than one heart, you can easily revive whoever falls first.

This can be taken advantage of by having one player get into the fight while the other hangs out in the background. The healing aspect is quick, so you should be able to dive in and out of combat to keep your heavy hitter alive and kicking.

The best tip, in this case, is to keep an eye on each other's health so things don't end before either of you is ready to give up your run. If you can heal either the lamb or the goat before you both go down, you can, hopefully, prolong your run.

3 Carefully Tailor Each Player's Build

Making Fights Go Faster

Yes, it’s pretty standard for fighting co-op games that when there’s more than one player the combat is naturally going to progress faster. However, there’s a little bit more layer with Cult of the Lamb’s combat.

You are given twice the options when you start a run, meaning that you can carefully cultivate each build to be strong and beneficial toward each person’s playstyle. Where one might have slower but heavy-hitting weapons, another should try to orient themselves to faster weapons and curses.

You can cover a lot more ground in terms of possible damage dealt and take down bosses so quickly if you’re smart about both builds - it’s what the pros can and would do, only it’s so much easier to achieve those pro builds between two players.

2 Pick Your Tarot Carefully

No Discarding Cards Here

There are a lot of tarot cards in Cult of the Lamb, and sometimes, it can be difficult to pick and choose which one you actually want to use. However, with co-op, there’s no picking and choosing which card goes back into the deck.

Both cards will be put to use, but it’s up to you and your gaming buddy to decide who gets which card. Really, even if you don’t draw the best cards in the game, it’s a win-win situation because they’re still being put to use.

Of course, if you end up in a rough spot and can’t decide who gets what card you could always let your previous round of Knucklebones decide or a quick game of rock-paper-scissors.

1 Swap Weapons And Curses

Steal The Other’s Discarded Ability

Let’s say that one of you gets paired with a Warmaker’s Hammer and the other with the Traitor’s Razor - you’re okay with the hammer, better than your co-op friend, but you’re better with the Razor. Nonetheless, it was in your best interest to divvy out weapons as you did.

However, once you get to a chamber where weapons can be swapped, your friend doesn’t hesitate to take the new one. Well, you’re not stuck with the hammer because now you can take up the Traitor’s Razor for yourself.

Weapons can easily be passed back and forth in this way, meaning that everyone ultimately gets a choice for what weapon they actually want. The same applies to curses - if you or your partner swap out for something else, the other can go ahead and take the previously acquired curse.
