Completing a run of Blue Prince is no easy feat, and nothing exemplifies that more than the existence of red rooms. Unlike all of the other rooms that, for the most part, will improve your run and maybe even give you some resources, red rooms instead create obstacles.

While it can be difficult for a beginner to dive in, these games serve as a fantastic jumping-off point for newcomers to the roguelike genre.

In a standard run of Blue Prince, there are eight different red rooms that you'll have the displeasure of drafting, and while you might think that these are worth avoiding at all times, sometimes you'll need to choose them because of their door placement. So, out of all the red rooms in Blue Prince, which is the hardest to deal with?

8 Lavatory

Standard

Unlike all of the other red rooms in Blue Prince, the Lavatory is by far the most inoffensive. Being a dead end, it's not particularly helpful in making progress throughout the house, but it also doesn't have any permanent or even temporary debuffs that will make your in-game day any tougher.

However, if you have the Shelter in your outer room, you can actually offset the hidden negative effect this room has. Usually, the Lavatory is guaranteed to have no items, but if you have a Shelter, it will offset this guarantee and spawn multiple items in the room, making it an actively useful room to draft in this niche scenario.

7 Chapel

Commonplace

Thanks to its commonplace rarity, the Chapel is a room that you'll likely draft in plenty of your Blue Prince runs. That's not only because of its rarity, but because it can often be useful enough to offset its negative effect.

Every time you travel through the Chapel (unless you've unlocked the Bishop chess power), you'll lose one of your coins. This is a pain if the Chapel is somewhere you'll keep running through if you need to backtrack, but if you aren't backtracking that often, then the Chapel's three doors can make it well worth drafting.

6 Dark Room

Standard

The Dark Room is definitely one of the more imposing red rooms in Blue Prince, but once you've drafted it a few times, you'll realize it isn't too much of an issue. Its debuff of not letting you see what room you're drafting once inside can end your run early if you get unlucky, but to avoid this, just try to avoid drafting the Dark Room if it's your only path forward.

However, if you have a Utility Closet, you can use the breaker box to turn the lights on in the Dark Room. Not only does this offset the debuff, but it also lets you explore the creepy red-lit room, look for clues, and maybe even pick up some useful items, too.

5 Gymnasium

Standard

Like the Chapel and the Dark Room, the Gynasium is a red room that you'll often end up using, thanks to its three doors being useful enough to offset any worries about the debuff. Every time you move through the Gynasium, you'll lose two steps instead of one, so avoid drafting this room in heavy traffic zones, especially later on in your run.

However, if you're doing a good job of managing your steps, whether it's thanks to certain items, plenty of bedrooms, or using food items, then this room won't be too much of a bother. On top of this, you can deactivate the debuff by using the breaker box to turn off the lights in the room.

4 Archives

Unusual

Even though the debuff that the Archives activate can be a massive pain, spawning the room is nearly always worth it, since the four doors make it a perfect option if you feel like you're running out of viable pathways during your run.

The debuff of the Archives will permanently hide one of your three drafting options. This means that, while you can choose any of the three options, you won't be able to see one of them. This isn't too debilitating, especially if you have plenty of pathways to choose from, but if you're aiming to move in a specific direction, this obstruction can cause issues.

3 Furnace

Rare

Unlike the other red rooms, the Furnace is one that you won't find yourself drafting that often. That's because, unlike most of the other red rooms, the Furnace is a dead end, and unlike the mostly inoffensive Lavatory, the Furnace actually has an active debuff.

Once you've drafted the Furnace, you'll have a higher chance of red rooms showing up in your draft pool, so if you're trying to spawn certain more useful rooms, this can offset your chances massively. However, the heat from the furnace can interact with other rooms in unexpected ways, so sometimes it's worth spawning if you're looking to experiment.

2 Maid's Chambers

Unusual

Unlike the other standard red rooms, the Maid's Chambers is a hybrid room, counting as both a red room and a bedroom. While this can be useful for activating certain buffs that rely on having a certain number of bedrooms, its debuff will make you want to avoid it if you can.

Every time you draft the Maid's Chambers, you'll lower the chance of items lying around in different rooms. Finding stray items is one of the best ways to increase your odds of success in Blue Prince, so lowering the chance of this is a pain. On top of this, the corner doors of the Maid's Chambers make it less versatile than other red room choices.

1 Weight Room

Rare

Even though the Weight Room has a massively useful four doors, it's still worth avoiding if you can, thanks to just how debilitating its debuff is. Every time you draft the Weight Room, even if you don't enter it, you'll automatically halve all of your remaining steps.

Early on in a run, this will automatically limit your exploration, and if it shows up later in a run, then it immediately puts pressure on you to wrap it up quickly. Even though the four doors are sometimes tempting, unless you're very confident in your step management, avoid drafting this room at all costs.
