PostsBut the Yin Tiger isn’t just hammering away; he’s also up for a friendly bout if you’re eager to test your limits and see how far you’ve come. Don’t be mistaken though, as challenging the Yin Tiger reveals one of the toughest, most thrilling, and rewarding boss fights in Black Myth: Wukong.
How To Find The Yin Tiger
The Yin Tiger can be found in the Zodiac Village within the Ruyi Scroll Painted Realm, a secluded sanctuary where the Zodiac Deities seek refuge.
To reach this area, you’ll first need to smack some sense into Chen Loong in the Bitter Lake and complete his simple request for resurrection pills. These can be acquired from Xu Dog, who’s stationed near the Cellar Keeper’s Shrine at the Crouching Tiger Temple.
Once you’ve got the medicine in hand, return to Chen Loong, who will teleport you to the Painted Realm via the Ruyi Scroll item. Upon your arrival, the Zodiac Deities—Shen Monkey, Xu Dog, and Chen Loong - will have already relocated to this area.
To locate the Yin Tiger, head left of Chen Loong and pass through the torii gate. You’ll find him hard at work at his forge, and you can speak to him to challenge him.
The Yin Tiger Attack Patterns
Expect heavy hits that pack a punch, but don’t worry, as the Yin Tiger doesn’t keep all his cards close to his chest. The Yin Tiger is generous enough to give away his moves with catchphrases and noticeable movements.
Attack
Description
How To Counter
Whirlwind Slash
The Yin Tiger holds his massive sword over his back, and performs a clockwise spinning slash. After a slight delay, he follows with three quick slashes in a row.
After the phase transition, he adds two more swings at the end.
Dodge right to avoid the first slash, and wait for the delay before you dodge through the rest of his swings.
Sweeping Gust
The Yin Tiger runs toward the Destined One and performs two horizontal spinning slashes.
Two empowered spinning strikes are added at the end of the combo after the phase change.
His wide swings are easily avoided with dodge rolls.
Roaring Slam
After unleashing an empowering roar, the Yin Tiger leaps towards the Destined One with a powerful slam, immediately following up with a 360-degree slash.
Dodge the moment he's about to land, and run away to avoid the slash.
Into The Leaves
When the Yin Tiger calls out his "Into The Leaves" catchphrase, he vanishes into thin air before reappearing to strike the Destined One. This sequence occurs three times: the first reappearance features a slam attack followed by a sweep, the second is marked by a rapid reappearance and a swift slash, and the third concludes with two empowered downward strikes. The final slam has an aftershock that causes the ground to erupt.
The strikes from the first two blinks are relatively easy to avoid with a well-timed dodge. However, for the final vanish, where he executes his powerful downward strikes, you'll need to roll four times to either the right or left to avoid the aftershock.
Tempest Spins
The Yin Tiger crouches low and holds his sword forward, then unleashes a spinning slash, immediately followed by another. After a brief five-second pause, he winds up for another spin, finishing with an empowered uppercut.
While executing the uppercut, the blade glows with an orange tinge. This powerful strike can send you skyward if it connects, leaving you incapacitated.
To avoid the Yin Tiger's spinning sweeps, roll out of the way as he spins. Timing is crucial, but the real challenge comes with dodging his uppercut. For this, Cloud Step is your safest bet, as he will target the decoy.
Gale Force Barrage
The Yin Tiger begins with an empowered slash, followed by a forceful shove, an upward stroke, a powerful slam, and a sweeping strike that unleashes a damaging wind wave.
For the final sweeping attack, roll directly into the Yin Tiger to avoid the damaging wind wave. For the rest of the strikes in this barrage, you can dodge roll in any direction to safely avoid them.
Stunning Roar
The Yin Tiger vanishes into thin air, only to reappear with an incapacitating roar that disorients the Destined One. A grab attack of sort, he follows up by cleaving his massive sword into them, then drags the blade across, inflicting significant damage.
Expect this move when the Yin Tiger retreats without blurting any catchphrase. The timing can be tricky, but once he reappears, immediately roll in any direction to avoid being caught by his incapacitating roar.
Ride With The Gale!
This catchphrase signals one of the Yin Tiger's most relentless assaults. He blinks in and out four times, reappearing each time with a different attack. On the first return, he executes a jumping slam. The next two appearances involve rapid, precise slashes. For the final reappearance, he charges forward with a powerful slash, then finishes with a sweeping strike.
For the initial jumping slam, spam the dodge button in a forward direction. Dodge through the two quick slashes that follow, and after the final vanish, you'll need to time your dodge rolls to evade the last attack. However, using Cloud Step will give you the edge in avoiding the powerful sweep.
Down With Might
The Yin Tiger leaps high and plummets down with a devastating slam.
Roll to either sides when he comes crashing down.

The Yin Tiger comes at you wielding a massive greatsword fresh from the forge, and if your previous encounters with the tiger family at Yellow Wind Ridge taught you anything, it's that a tiger is not one to take lightly.
The Yin Tiger Boss Preparations
CloseAs a Zodiac Deity, the Yin Tiger means business. Forget about cheap tricks like Immobilize, as they’ll barely make a dent in this imposing boss. He expects a fair fight, so taking him on requires serious preparation.
To stand a chance, raise your base defense as much as possible, and wield your most powerful staff. Ensuring the following equipment can make all the difference:
- Loongscale Set
- Kang-Jin Staff
- Back Scratcher and Agate Jar Curios
- Wandering Wight Spirit
You can upgrade your armor before challenging the Yin Tiger.
Consuming the proper Celestial Medicine is also key, as these provide permanent increases to Health, Defense, and Stamina until your next reset. Every bit of extra toughness counts against the Yin Tiger.
For abilities, consider Punishing Downpour to add a lightning element to your attacks, and Composure to maintain your combo after dodging. If you’re confident with parrying, the Rock Solid spell is a solid choice. If not, opt for Cloud Step to counter his empowered strikes.
Summoning clones with the A Pluck of Many spell might seem tempting, but the Yin Tiger quickly wipes them out with area-clearing attacks. Luckily, like many furry foes, the Yin Tiger is vulnerable to Burn, which can be inflicted through your Red Tides Transformation.
Keep these tips in mind, and you'll be well-prepared for this challenging encounter.
The Yin Tiger Boss Easy Strategy
Unfortunately, there's no shortcut when it comes to challenging the Yin Tiger. Spells like Immobilize have little to no effect, and using them provokes the Yin Tiger to retaliate harder. If you summon duplicates, they won’t last long either, as the Yin Tiger quickly dispatches them with eruptions.
Unlike some other bosses, the Yin Tiger doesn’t follow a strict attack pattern, making him harder to predict. However, be on guard after his stunning roar, where he undergoes a phase change. From this point on, he adds unpredictable swings to his combos, and some of those strikes are empowered.
Your best chance to deal damage is right after he finishes a combo. Watch for openings in his long, winding sweeps, where you can sneak in a hit or two. It's vital to have at four focus points, so you can inflict maximum damage with your staff stances. The Smash Stance and Thrust Stance work wonders here.
When the fight starts, the Yin Tiger sharpens his blade, and you should take advantage of this brief moment to land a powerful opening charged attack. After that, it’s all about playing it safe and patiently whittling down his health.
Rewards For The Yin Tiger Boss Fight
Defeating the Yin Tiger unlocks some incredible rewards. You’ll gain access to craft the Iron Set, a legendary armor set with exceptionally high stats. Additionally, the Yin Tiger hands over his powerful greatsword, which unlocks the Ebon Flow transformation. This allows you to transform into the formidable Yin Tiger himself.
Speaking to the Yin Tiger after the fight also grants you an extra Curios slot, making these rewards truly worthwhile for any future challenges. The Roaring Slash achievement is also unlocked afterwards.
