Chapter Three of Black Myth: Wukong unfolds in the snowy expanse of The New West, where the Destined One will face a variety of bosses. Some are grand and imposing, while others are more tedious and vexing. Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang falls squarely into the latter category, with an overstretched name and equally frustrating attack moves to match.

This optional encounter is reminiscent of the frog-like bosses you've faced in earlier chapters, both in design and attack moves. However, Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang introduces a range of frost-inducing area-clearing attacks that can effortlessly put you into a chilled state if you're not careful.

How To Find The Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang Boss

To find Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang, you must first locate the four Buddha statues in the Bitter Lake zone of Chapter Three, which will allow access to the Valley of Ecstasy. After resting at the Mindfulness Cliff Keeper's Shrine, follow the linear path until you defeat the Non-White boss, then slide down the snowy hill, landing near the Forest of Felicity Keeper's Shrine.

From there, head straight through the torii gate, then take a left through an archway on the cliff wall. Continue left through the woods, and you'll reach a frozen lake where the frog Yaoguai Chief awaits.

Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang Attack Patterns

Much like other bosses in Chapter Three, Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang can inflict the Frost Bane with its attacks. However, if you've faced Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw or Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang, you'll find many of its attack patterns familiar, making the dodge timings easier to manage.

Attack

Description

How To Counter

Frost Vapor

Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang billows out a cloud of freezing vapor around it that gradually inflicts the Frost Bane.

Stay out of range of the cloud the boss releases. While the cloud itself doesn't deal damage, it rapidly fills your Frost bar, causing you to take damage and freeze in place once it's maxed out.

Tongue Sweep

Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang extends its tongue, grabbing a chunk of rock while sweeping it across the area, and then hurls the rock at the Destined One. This move can be repeated up to four times in a row.

Dodge through the tonguesweeps, and you'll also evade the rocks.

Tongue Stab

Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang extends its tongue in a rapid, straight-line thrust toward the Destined One.

Roll to the sides when it fires out its tongue.

Icy Wail

Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang raises its head and emits a chilling shriek, causing several icy spikes to erupt throughout the arena.

Steer clear of the icy spikes to avoid damage.

Chilling Stomp

Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang leaps into the air and lands with a powerful stomp, creating a chilling shockwave that spreads in a wide circular area throughout the boss arena.

Roll through the approaching wave after the boss lands.

Rear Kick

Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang turns around and quickly extends its legs into a powerful rear kick.

Avoid staying behind the boss for extended periods, but if you see it doing this move, dodge to the sides.

Tummy Smack

After extending its arms and inflating its belly, Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang springs forward to tackle the Destined One with a powerful belly slam.

Prepare to roll to either side when you see it extending its arms.

Tongue Grab Attack

Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang quickly snaps its tongue to graband eat the Destined One. After chewing three times, the boss spits them out and unleashes a breath of Frost that instantly inflicts the Frost Bane.

This move can easily be countered by dodging left or right.

Three-Hit Combo

Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang begins with two quick slaps in succession. It then jumps to slam the ground, creating a ring of icy spikes around it.

Double roll to dodge the slaps, and roll again just before Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang lands. After that, either stay within the ring of icy spikes or roll outside of it. If you stay within the ring, be prepared for its Tongue Grab attack.

Icy Trail

Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang sidesteps before lunging forward with a slap, releasing a trail of icy spikes that extends in a straight line toward the Destined One.

Roll to the side to dodge both the slap and the trail of icy spikes.

Piercing Wail

Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang leaps into the air and, upon landing, releases a powerful croaking shriek that can damage the Destined One.

To avoid damage from the shriek, stay out of its range. If you can’t escape the radius, time your dodge just as it begins to let out the cry.

One thing to watch out for is the Frost patches left behind by its attacks, which gradually build up Frost.

How To Beat Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang

From your previous encounters with the frog Chief Yaoguais, you'll know Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang isn't the most demanding boss around. While not particularly challenging, your main concern will be avoiding the irritating Frost Bane, which this boss inflicts with ease using some of its attacks.

The Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang Boss Preparations

To tackle Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang, you'll obviously need your best-performing staff, like the Kang-Jin Staff. But that's just the start. By now, you've probably come across some useful items to handle Frost.

We're talking about the Fiery Gourd and the Ring of Fire spell; both tools grant Frost immunity for a while. As far as acquiring these goes, Ring of Fire can't be missed, as you'll obtain it after your second run-in with the Macaque Chief, while the Fiery Gourd is inside a chest after jumping down the rickety bridge in the Mindfulness Cliff.

The Frostsprout Twig and Mani Bead are also worth considering, as these Curios pair well together. The Twig ups your chill resistance, while the Mani Bead boosts your chances of scoring critical hits, making quick work of the frog. And if you've beaten the Yin Tiger, you can certainly equip another Curio - the Back Scratcher or Cat Eye Beads - for that extra edge.

The Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang Boss Easy Stategy

At the start of the boss fight, make up for your lack of the Immobilizespell by going all out with your duplicates from the A Pluck of Many spell. Let Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang take the initiative, and when it comes at you with its frost vapor move, which will cover most of the ground with a Frost, cast the Ring of Fire spell to counter it.

The duration of the fight before it uses the icy wail move is what we'll call phase one. Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang uses its standard tongue attacks, slaps, and tummy tackles during this phase. Halfway through, it undergoes the phase transition, hinted by its first icy wail move.

In phase two, it gets more aggressive as it frequently uses attacks involving icy spikes. However, there's a bit of a pattern to it, but it's not too strict.

If the boss performs the three-hit combo that ends with a ring of icy spikes, be ready for a tongue grab if you're inside the ring. If not, it'll likely follow up with the piercing wail move, so you'll need to distance yourself quickly.

Sometimes, the Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang boss will mix things up by following the icy trail move into the three-hit combo that ends in another ring of icy spikes. However, instead of going into the usual special moves, it'll launch into another icy trail that ends with the piercing cry attack.

The icy spikes and piercing cry attacks are among the most annoying, so watch out for them.

Fortunately, Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang takes a bit of time to recover between combos, giving you plenty of opportunities to punish it with consistent damage. While the boss can easily be defeated without relying on Transformations, you can certainly use Red Tides or Ebon Flow if you prefer to take down the annoying frog as quickly as possible.

Rewards For Beating The Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang Boss

Once you've defeated the Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang Boss, including one Yaogaui Core, you're rewarded with the following items:

  • Yaoguai Core
  • Refined Iron Sand
  • Tadpole

Upgrading the Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang Spirit requires Tadpoles, and this upgrade material is only dropped as a reward for defeating frog bosses like Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang.
