With some annoying moves to account for and the dangers of area effects, this lightning-based boss will give you a bit more trouble than you'd first expect. However, after defeating Black Bear Guai, you'll have everything you need to grab yourself a pair of frog legs as a snack for the road.

Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw's Attacks And Movesets

Attack Name

Attack Description

Suggested Counter

Backward Retort

When the player stands behind the frog, it kicks back a distance with both of its legs. It can repeat this multiple times.

Dodge roll in a diagonal forward (left or right). Follow up with attacks.

Lightning Tongue Whip

The frog fires a straight-lined tongue forward, electrified and quick.

Sidestep left or right.

Lightning Tongue Sweep

The frog takes a step back and braces itself before launching its tongue out to its right. Electrified, the tongue sweeps back and forth three times before being pulled back in. This attack can end prematurely.

Dodge forward-left to end on the frog's right side, almost behind it. Begin swift attacks.

Dash Attack

Sidestepping either left or right, the frog quickly launches itself forward in a straight line after its initial side-hop.

Dodge forward as soon as the frog begins to launch forward.

Physical Combo

The frog raises its right 'hand' and slaps the player diagonally. If the player is unstruck by the first slap, it may turn into a three-hit-combo with a following backstrike by the same leading hand and then a jump into the air, which results in a double-fisted strike downward.

Dodge through the first attack. Pause to check for follow-up strikes, and then attack.

Electrified Dispersed Spit

The frog jumps backward to create distance, raises its head, and (indicated by the bulge at its throat) spits up a wave of electrified projectiles. The projectiles are fired in an arc and run along the ground, bouncing over the water's surface and dispersing.

Dodgeroll forward through the sparks or maintain distance.

Electrified Spit

The frog jumps back, looks as if it is preparing to throw up, and releases several electrified projectiles on the ground in a semi-straight line. These projectiles can track the player and curve slightly.

Stay back and either jump or double-roll through these projectiles.

Electric Burst

Rearing onto its hind legs, the frog releases an electric burst and a sort of roar. Bolts of lightning will begin to rain down on the pond's area.

Keep mobile, sprinting around and dodge rolling when a yellow aura is indicated on the ground near you (warning of an impending strike).

Electric Breath

The frog jumps back, and its throat begins to glow yellow. It then releases an arc of electrified balls that float around the boss in a circle before eventually flying at the player.

Keep your distance and sprint in an arc around the frog, avoiding the projectiles as they near.

Tongue Grab

The frog turns its head to the right and electrifies its tongue. Upon a sweep, it grabs the player and pulls them into its mouth. When grabbed, the player becomes Shocked, if not already, is dealt significant damage, and then is spit out.

Dodge roll forward-left and attack.

Hop

The frog hops forward twice, damaging the player if underneath when it lands.

Dodge forward and then dash back to the frog to attack as it settles from the second hop.

Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw only has a grand total of 11 attacks, making him a very deceptively easy field boss.

With his move pool so limited, you'll see a lot of repetition, making it easy to learn his moveset quickly. This will be necessary with his lightning attacks due to how easy it is to build Shock at this point in the game.

The most dangerous attacks are:

  • Tongue Grab
  • Electric Burst
  • Both Electric Spit attacks

As this fight deals with Shock damage, we highly recommend studying the table above as success will depend on you knowing how to deal with his lightning attacks.

How To Defeat Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw

Located in a pool accessible from either the north side where the fox deity resides or from the south past a lightning spear wolf monk, you'll have to jump down into a pond that will act as a catalyst for most of this frog's attacks.

When in this pool, all of this boss's electric attacks have a slight aura and disperse, making hitboxes deceptively larger than they first seem.

Be careful when you jump down if you're coming from behind Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw. He will kick back with both his legs with some speed, making it difficult to dodge if you aren't expecting the move.

He can repeat this multiple times, so try not to stay directly behind him during this fight.

This fight is your introduction to the "Shock" status condition:

Shock: Worsens all damage received.

As this fight easily builds up your Shock meter, you'll want to take care to play this fight cautiously to prevent additional damage build-up.

You'll want to look for openings in his attacks, chief among them being:

  • Backward Retort
  • Lightning Tongue Sweep
  • Physical Combo

These attacks will have some of the most obvious and largest openings for punishment.

In general, staying on this frog's back quarter but not directly behind him will be the best position for most of his attacks.

We don't generally recommend using your consumable resources for this fight, as there are certainly much stronger bosses ahead to save for.

For Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw, the most tried-and-true method will be to watch his moves and learn. There is no secret trick to this troubling frog.

If you're having trouble with Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw, we recommend the following tips:

  1. Invest in your Mysticism points. Your Immobilize spell is a great asset here, especially for stopping this frog from using some of his electric attacks.
  2. When you feel overwhelmed by some of his attacks, use your Cloud Step to disappear, and remember to use your hidden time for healing before you strike.
  3. You won't have a lot of time for charging your Smash stance, so remember Jump-Heavy attacks are your friend.
  4. Staying on land will not protect you from his lightning attacks, especially his Electric Burst. The shore won't save you.
  5. If you're low on health and need to do some extra damage with little risk, try your Transformation. He isn't the most effective here in this water pool, but he could be just the edge you need to finish him off.

He's a little annoying to deal with, but with enough studying, you'll cut the legs off this frog and carry on to more entertaining horizons.

Your reward will be:

  • Tadpole
  • The formula for Evil Repelling Medicament
  • x1 Stone Spirit
  • x1 Yaoguai Core
  • x770 Will
