It is an exceptionally unique boss, pulling the tricks that the Destined One has yet to see anywhere else. Overcoming its attack patterns and dodging efficiently is the key to victory. Finding and defeating Gore-Eye Daoist is recommended because of the worthy rewards that await you.

How To Find The Gore-Eye Daoist

The Gore-Eye Doaist can be found near the Windseal Gate Keeper’s Shrine in the Yellow Wind Formation area of Chapter 2. There are two ways to reach this boss.

Either you circle around the Iron Gates through the Valley of Despair and Freight Cliff area after defeating the Second Prince of Flowing Sands, or you simply defeat the Tiger Vanguard and Stone Vanguard bosses, which will allow you to get the two Key Items required to open the Iron Gates, making it easier to reach this mini-boss.

While it is possible to fight this boss without defeating Tiger Vanguard and opening the iron gates, it isn’t recommended, as you’ll have to travel through the entire Freight Cliff area until you come across the location of this boss.

From the Windseal Gate Shrine, you have to go left, until you encounter a Lesser Rat. Defeat it and progress ahead. You will encounter the Gore-Eye Daoist shortly, standing in front of a Luojia Fragrant Vine Tree.

Gore-Eye Daoist Attacks

Description

How To Avoid

Mace Of Blood

As you enter its range for the first time, Gore-Eye Doaist will unleash a war cry and smack his mace on the ground after a short delay. This smack on the ground will release a shockwave of blood, while also splattering the blood on the ground. The boss may also use this attack later on in the fight.

The best way to deal with this attack is to immobilize the boss during the attack’s animation. If you don’t wanna do that, you’ll have to get far away from it, so that you’re out of range of the blood shockwave. You can also avoid this attack by dodging, but the timing is strict.

Mace Spray

Gore-Eye Doaist will raise his mace and slowly spray the blood through it. The blood will also splatter on the ground in front of him.

This attack can be avoided by simply sprinting out of the range. You can also dodge this attack easily. The actual issue is the blood that is on the ground as it will stay there for a while.

Blood Darts

During the battle, when the Destined One is at medium range, the boss might use this attack where he laughs and raises his mace in both of his hands, and blood darts will start to flow out of the lump on his back. These darts usually chase the player, and if you get hit by one, it is difficult to dodge the rest.

The blood darts will also splatter on the ground. You have to avoid this attack by dodging multiple times in any direction right as the darts are about to hit you.

Mace Swing Combo

The boss may swing around its mace, leading to a thrust attack. The boss may also stop right after the initial swing. Both the thrust and the initial swing splatter blood on the ground.

This attack is slow and can be easily avoided by dodging in any direction. The thrust is also linear, making it easy to dodge by moving around the boss.

Dancing Blood Darts

This is an enhanced version of the Blood Darts attack. Towards the end of this move, the boss will smack his staff on the ground, unleashing a huge shockwave of blood in a large AOE. This attack will clear most of the blood that’s splattered on the ground.

Avoiding the blood darts is easy as you simply have to dodge them repeatedly. Dodging the shockwave is tricky as it requires precise timing. Make sure you’re not standing on any puddle of blood on the ground as the shockwave will cause the blood to explode, dealing additional damage.

Blood Suction And Explosion

During the latter half of the fight, the Gore-Eye Doaist will kneel on the ground and will start to glow red. The boss will suck the blood near it on the ground, leading up to an explosion.

You can avoid this attack by getting out of its range. The explosion has a short radius and leaves the boss recovering for quite a while, making it easy to get a few hits in.

Blood Ball

The boss will swing its mace around, throwing a blood projectile in the Destined One’s direction.

This attack is difficult to predict but can be dodged easily if you see it coming. Dodge to the side as the boss swings his mace around to avoid the blood projectile.

The primary obstacle in this boss fight is the blood splattered on the ground. The bubbling blood will inflict poison build-up on the Destined One if he steps on it. So you’ll have to watch where you step during the entire fight.

You can also equip your Gourd with the Gal Gem Soak that you receive by talking to the Shen Monkey, as it makes you poison-resistant and will make the fight slightly easier.

There are also a total of three Lesser Rats in the area. Two of them can be defeated before the fight begins. The third Lesser Rat is difficult to find, and it may randomly start attacking you during your fight with the Gore-Eye Daoist. If you’re caught getting attacked by the third Lesser Rat during the fight, focus on killing it first as it doesn’t have a lot of HP.

How To Defeat The Gore-Eye Daoist

The fight itself is relatively easy. The main strategy for defeating the Gore-Eye Daoist revolves around the Destined One staying close to the boss and repeatedly hitting it. As soon as the boss starts to dance or sing, get away from it so you can avoid getting hit by the blood shockwave attacks.

The boss gets interrupted by light attacks easily, so go all out and don't hesitate to deal as much damage as you can. If he starts dancing or singing, you can cast the immobilizing spell to dish out more damage.

Giving this boss some space can make this fight unnecessarily difficult. Its ranged attacks are difficult to avoid, and prolonging the fight is also not recommended due to the blood on the ground causing poison build-up.

The Rewards For Defeating Gore-Eye Daoist

Defeating Gore-Eye Daoist rewards the Destined One with its Spirit Summon. Using the Spirit Summon allows the Destined One to turn into the Gore-Eye Daoist, smashing his staff on the ground. The staff will remain on the ground, buffing the Destined One’s attack for a short duration, even after the transformation has ended.

However, the best reward is the Luojia Fragrant Vine, which can be acquired after defeating the mini-boss. This item, when brought to the Shen Monkey, allows the Destined One to increase the amount of sips available from the Gourd.
