Summary

  • A Black Myth: Wukong fan from China appears to have turned the game into a first-person shooter.
  • A user on the video sharing platform Bilibili has uploaded several examples of this mod in action, taking down grunts, as well as bosses like Erlang and Wandering Wight.

Black Myth: Wukong is a popular video game that released on PC in 2024. That automatically makes it a prime target for modders to strut their stuff and do their thing, and we've already seen some absolutely bananas (pun intended) mods come from the game's community in recent weeks. Yes, The Destined One has been turned into CJ from GTA: San Andreas.

However, one Black Myth: Wukong fan from China probably has the trophy for the strangest mod on lockdown, as they've managed to turn the game into a first-person shooter. First shared by Kotaku, a clip of the creator's mod blew up on the Black Myth: Wukong subreddit this past week, showcasing The Destined One throwing down with the game's first boss, Erlang, with nothing but an assault rifle. Your 73 attacks aren't so fancy now, huh?

Black Myth: Wukong Has Been Turned Into A First-Person Shooter

In the videos, we can also see the player taking out a variety of different grunts from afar, getting completely peppered by a spray of bullets and going down in mere seconds. Not even a rough early boss like Wandering Wight was able to put up a fight against The Destined One with an AK-47, though it does look quite easy to get headshots against the poor guy.

These videos can be traced back to a user on the Chinese video sharing website Bilibili, and are part of an effort to see what Black Myth: Wukong would be like in first-person. According to one of the video's titles (translated by Kotaku), they found the entire experience rather challenging, though the project evolved into turning the game into a first-person shooter.

It's a fairly impressive effort too, almost as if developer Game Science itself included a secret AK-47 and first-person mode for players to find. Unfortunately, I don't think that Game Science has any official plans right now to put assualt rifles and pistol in Black Myth: Wukong just yet. Then again, we're supposedly getting some DLC around Chinese New Year next year, so you never know?
