Aragami 2

Released September 17, 2021 Developer(s) Lince Works Publisher(s) Lince Works, Yooreka Studio Platform(s) PS5, Nintendo Switch Powered by Expand Collapse

While the motto of the Assassin's Creed series is working in the shadows to serve the light, in Aragami 2, you literally are the shadow. The unique premise of this stealth game series is that not only are you a ninja, but your clan is afflicted with a curse that allows you to wield Shadow Essence and teleport, or Shadow Leap.

Aragami 2 is an excellent stealth game experience, and even more so because you can have up to three friends join you in online co-op to work together on stealth takedowns. The animations are compelling, and then you also have many different shadow abilities to unlock and try out in combat.

Still Wakes the Deep

Released June 18, 2024 Developer(s) The Chinese Room Publisher(s) Secret Mode Platform(s) PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S Powered by Expand Collapse

There's truly never been a stealth horror game quite like Still Wakes the Deep. Set on an oil rig where your claustrophobia, thalassophobia, and nyctophobia will be tested, the game is also an homage to Scottish culture. It features a voice cast full of acclaimed Scottish actors like Alec Newman, Neve McIntosh, and Clive Russel, and there's a Scottish Gaelic language option as well (with a trophy attached).

On the run from the law, Caz McLeary takes a job as an electrician on the Beira D North Sea oil rig, where things quickly turn perilous and Lovecraftian. A mysterious growth emerges from the sea and overtakes the rig, causing Caz's colleagues to turn into body-horror monstrosities that you need to stealthily sneak past and avoid across various atmospheric levels.

Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut

Released August 20, 2021 Developer(s) Sucker Punch Publisher(s) Sony Interactive Entertainment Platform(s) PC, PS5, PS4 Powered by Expand Collapse

Sucker Punch is a Sony Interactive developer known for dabbling in the stealth genre with the Sly Cooper series, and it returns with some more of that in the design of Ghost Of Tsushima. Before the official announcement of Assassin's Creed Shadows, Ghost of Tsushima was a game that's long been heralded as the Feudal Japan Assassin's Creed game everyone longed for.

While stealth kills are encouraged here and the very title aims for you to be a ghostly menace to the Mongol invaders, much of the katana combat will also happen in duels and open-world hack-and-slash encounters. The world of Tsushima itself, and Iki Island in the Director's Cut expansion, are gorgeous and scenic, especially with the graphics capabilities of the PS5.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Released August 18, 2023 Developer(s) Sumo Nottingham Publisher(s) Gun Interactive Platform(s) PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One Powered by Expand Collapse

Like the studio's previous game, Friday the 13th, Gun Media gave another iconic horror film franchise an asymmetrical Dead by Daylight-style horror game of its own. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is Leatherface and family versus the victims escaping torture on their farm, and the gameplay is an interesting pivot into a 3v4 match.

The villains Hitchhiker, Cook, and Leatherface are joined by new sinister acolytes Johnny and Sissy, and it's the victims who must stealthily avoid their advances and escape the farm successfully. The tension and stealth are immersive and evocative of the experience of the films.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Released October 20, 2023 Developer(s) Insomniac Games Publisher(s) Sony Interactive Entertainment Platform(s) PlayStation 5, PC Powered by Expand Collapse

Though not quite intended as a stealth game, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 certainly contains a lot of mechanics for a web-slinging stealth approach during missions. MJ's missions always require her to sneak around guards and not get caught, while the new web line system and double stealth takedowns can see Peter and Miles silently scoop up the bad guys more efficiently.

Though you might prefer experiencing the fluid Arkham-style combat, especially with Peter's new symbiote suit abilities, stealth can still get the job done here, even if it's not as fun (or even more fun if you prefer stealth). The roster of Spider-Man villains is also even more epic than the first game, with plenty of surprises in store.
