These characters are always seen together, whether that’s in merchandise, anime adaptations, or just advertising or social media posts. They’re the definition of ‘comes as a pair, do not separate’. These are our favourite pairs of Sanrio characters, and we love their synergy together.

10 Magical Twin Comets (Lili & Lulu)

Lili and Lulu, otherwise known as Magical Twin Comets, are never seen without their twin. They’re childhood friends of Kiki and Lala (Little Twin Stars), and have a complete opposite aesthetic to them. Where Kiki and Lala are all pastels, Magical Twin Comets are more gothic, with black hair and outfits. They do like a bit of magical sparkle, though.

According to their Sanrio profile, Lili is “lively and cheerful”, though she “has a reckless side.” Lulu, on the other hand, dreams of romance and meeting her prince. They also have a mouse friend, called Mimi, who acts like their big sister. How adorable.

9 Vaudeville Duo (Eddy & Emmy)

The Vaudeville Duo consists of Eddy and Emmy. By looking at them, you might think they’re twins, but they’re not quite. They’re childhood friends who happened to be born on the same day and at the same hospital. Talk about a coincidence.

Their Sanrio profile suggests their career aspirations and dreams align too: Eddy wants to be a stage director, and Emmy wants to become an actor on Broadway. Perhaps one day Eddy will direct a stage production for Emmy to be the star of.

8 Cherinacherine (Cherina & Cherine)

Cherina and Cherine look like a mix of a mouse and a bear cub, but their Sanrio profile actually describes them as “fairy girls”. They live in Cherry Forest, which is why they’re often depicted holding a cherry. The pair must be tiny, considering how big the cherry always looks compared to them.

Cherina and Cherine are distinguished by the position of their ribbon: Cherina’s ribbon is on her ear, while Cherine’s is on her neck. While they have a shared love of cherries, Cherina likes to bake them in pies, whereas Cherine prefers fresh cherries.

7 Patty & Jimmy

There aren’t too many official Sanrio couples, but Patty & Jimmy are described as a “lovey-dovey couple”. They’re childhood best friends and live next door to each other in Kansas, which is pretty adorable.

They always say opposites attract, and that’s certainly true with Patty and Jimmy. Patty is a tomboy and loves sports, but isn’t fond of studying. Jimmy, on the other hand, seems to be a bit of a thinker, as he likes to play chess and does well at school. He even wants to become president one day.

6 Lloromannic (Berry & Cherry)

Berry and Cherry, known together as Lloromannic, are part of the Cinnamoroll universe. These demons are Cinnamoroll’s rivals and known for stirring up trouble with their tricksy personalities. Despite their cute appearances, they can be quite mean, especially for a Sanrio character.

Berry is jealous of Cinnamoroll, so he holds a grudge against him and wants to take his place in the cafe, while Cherry puts on a cute demeanour because she has a crush on Espresso.

‘Lloromannic’ is ‘Cinnamoroll’ backwards.

5 Bad Badtz-Maru & Keroppi

While Badtz Maru and Keroppi aren’t as closely tied together as other Sanrio pairs and don’t have a lot of shared merchandise, they still have a very cute friendship. They first appeared as best friends in Hello Kitty and Friends Supercute Adventures and hang out a lot together in the TV show.

They’re also best friends in the game Hello Kitty Island Adventure, where Keroppi is often found chatting with Badtz-Maru at his comic stand. They like playing pranks together too, showing off their mischievous personalities.

4 Nyokki & Penne

Nyokki and Penne are an adorable pair of cats named after Italian food. They lived in an Italian restaurant together (hence their names) with their chef owner, but they wanted to explore the outside world and go on more adventures, so they decided to leave together.

The pair of kittens have very cute matching designs; Nyokki is a black cat and Penne is a white one, and they wear matching blue ribbons and have the same pink, blushy cheeks. They’re both described as mischievous and cheeky, just like real kittens.

3 Hello Kitty & Dear Daniel

Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel are Sanrio’s official mascot couple. Dear Daniel debuted 25 years after Hello Kitty first became a main character at Sanrio, and they immediately became established as boyfriend and girlfriend.

Daniel is just as kind and friendly as Hello Kitty, making them the perfect match. He’s described as “sensitive and sentimental", and he’s definitely depicted that way when they’re together. They even regularly feature in adorable Valentine’s Day merch and promotions.

2 Little Twin Stars (Kiki & Lala)

As you can guess from the name, Kiki and Lala are a pair of twin stars. They were born on a planet named Dream Nebula. Lala is the older sister; she has a creative streak and loves drawing and writing. Kiki is the younger of the two and likes to spend his time making things or playing pranks.

Kiki and Lala were originally designed by Yasuko Matsumoto, who was asked to create characters for a Christmas promotion, which is where the star motif for their designs comes from.

1 My Melody & Kuromi

My Melody and Kuromi are easily the most popular and famous Sanrio duo. Fans love their opposing aesthetics: where My Melody is all about bright pinks and pastel colours, Kuromi loves black and punk clothing.

Kuromi was originally created to be My Melody’s rival, similar to Berry and Cinnamoroll, but they have evolved to have an adorable friendship instead. They’re almost always seen together and have plenty of shared merchandise.

They even have a show, simply called My Melody & Kuromi.
