Summary

  • Get inspired by Japanese gardens with red gates, flowers, and ponds for a tranquil and foresty look. Plant bamboo for extra ambiance.
  • Create a whimsical mushroom garden or a mushroom-themed village using red mushroom blocks and customized color schemes with wool and concrete.
  • Add an interactive element to your garden with a hedge maze, challenge others to complete it, and even offer a prize at the end. Explore different shapes and sizes for a unique look.

Minecraft lets you express your creativity to the fullest, but this doesn't always have to include megabases that tower above everything on the server. Sometimes, the best addition to your base is a cute little garden that brings some life and greenery to the area. Or, of course, a gigantic garden area worthy of a Minecraft hero.

With all the nature-themed blocks in the game, it can be hard to pinpoint exactly how you want your garden to look. Thankfully, we are here to provide some help. Here, you can check out some great garden design ideas that can serve as inspiration as you make your own.

First up, we have the classic Japanese garden. This is a popular design, complete with red gates (Torii), flowers, and a pond for fish. The distinct landmarks in Japanese gardens are the gates and pagoda/shrine roofs.

With these landmarks in place, you can fill in the surrounding area with flowers, paths, and tranquil areas for your animals to roam. If you are going for a more foresty look, you can also plant bamboo in the surrounding area.

7 Mushroom Garden

This next design can be applied to several different build types. In addition to having a mushroom garden, you can also fully embrace the mushroom aspect and make an entire mushroom-themed village.

With red mushroom blocks in hand, you can create mushrooms of any size. Want to feel like a tiny fairy exploring a mushroom patch? Go for it! In addition to using red mushroom blocks, you can create custom color schemes with wool and concrete.

6 Hedge Maze Garden

Hedge maze gardens are a great way to bring an interactive element to your garden. If you are playing on a server with others, you can challenge them to complete the maze as quickly as possible. If you have the resources, you can even put a prize at the end.

In general, hedge mazes are quite big. This makes them worthy of standing next to equally-as-big bases without looking too pitiful. You can go for the square look, as well as shake things up with a new shape.

5 Rock Garden

If greenery isn't your thing, that's fine! You can also make yourself a rock garden. Above, you can check out a Yin and Yang rock garden, but if this isn't for you, you can place your rocks in any design that you want.

Remember, you can use other blocks besides stone varieties to get the job done. Dead coral makes a great rocky texture; to get this, simply harvest coral from a coral reef, and then let it dry out. Eventually, the coral will turn grey.

4 Crop Garden

Your garden can also be used to grow and harvest crops. Instead of creating squares of farmland that looks like a drab production zone, you can combine the aesthetic with the practicality! Crop gardens don't waste any space, which can be helpful if you are on a populated server.

Certain crops can enhance the look of gardens when fully grown. For example, an area with fully-grown beets can add some natural variation to the garden. Since beets aren't the most necessary in the game, you can instead use them as decoration.

3 Flower Garden

Flower gardens are a classic; there are tons of flower options in Minecraft, allowing your creativity to run wild. You can opt for an organized flower garden like the one shown above, or go for a more natural look, with flowers mixed together.

With cherry blossom and azalea trees, you can also use their leaves to create flower bushes. With some strategically placed water, you can also use coral to add more variation within your flower garden.

2 Greenhouse Garden

Greenhouses are a great option if you want to keep your gardening indoors. To make a greenhouse, you essentially just need to make the frame of a building, and then replace the walls with glass. With this, you can place plants inside, as well as directly out front. You can even make the roof out of grass and plant something up there!

In addition to showing off your building skills, greenhouses are great if you want to raise bees. With bees and flowers kept inside the greenhouse, you don't have to worry about bees straying too far and potentially getting lost.

1 Fairy Garden

Lastly, we have the fairy garden. This isn't a set design, but it has a cottagecore look that feels warm and cozy. Fairy gardens are typically dense with flowers and include a bunch of lights to have a twinkling effect.

Fairies presumably spend time outside, so try adding some structure-free areas in your garden. For example, rather than having a dining area in your house, the fairy garden can have a table and chairs, with nearby cooking space.
