Summary

  • Neglectful fathers: These characters, despite their success, make terrible parenting decisions and have few loved ones.
  • George Joestar: Meek and neglectful father who compared his sons, Jonathan and Dio.
  • Shouichi Makise: Distant and cold towards his daughter, stealing her work and mistreating her.

Finding out who the best fathers are isn’t as hard as one may assume, especially when you’re seeking out the ones who are the best at being the absolute worst at parenting. Despite being hugely successful in their own respective universes, these characters wind up making awful decisions and barely have any loved ones to cling to despite the blood relatives.

Rightfully so, some of these antagonists meet their own demise at the hands of the people they’ve wronged most over the years, while others merely live out their hollow lives with barely anything meaningful to live or strive for on their own.

9 George Joestar 1 - Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood

As meek and fragile as he was, George always strived to do right by the people in his life and devoted his life to educating his children while upholding his ideals of justice and etiquette. Unfortunately, after losing his wife, George turned into a rather neglectful father figure who ignored and belittled his only son Jonathan, while comparing him to his equally neglected adopted son Dio Brando.

George wasn’t that bad when it came to spoiling his kids with his wealth; his only mistake was letting the deceased stagnate his life.

8 Shouichi Makise - Steins;Gate

As deplorable as he was by the end of Steins;Gate: 0, Shouichi Makise somehow found himself to be a rather unlikeable washup since the start of the series. His unbridled jealousy and lack of moral compass made him distant and cold towards his own kid, a child who was rather fond of him despite his shortcomings.

Makise made sure to beat it into his daughter’s heart that there was no place for her in his life. He stole her work and theories and felt his mistreatment of Kurisu was essentially justified since she “made” him a laughingstock in the scientific community.

7 Ging Freecs - Hunter X Hunter

Ging is as much of a deadbeat father as one can get and barely leaves his kid with anything to go off of despite the good terms they were on. He spent his entire life running away from the responsibility that comes with becoming a father and resisted Gon even though he received a second chance.

Instead of reconnecting with his son, Ging felt annoyed and made himself scarce pretty fast for no particular reason, despite knowing how hard it was for Gon to finally seek an audience with him.

6 Kaido - One Piece

Not only was he the strongest, but he was also self-obsessed and perhaps justifiably afraid of the world around him. It was bad enough to want to plot and overthrow the current system. Ironically, Kaido caged his only son away and barely showed him any care or affection.

Yamato lived a tough life while he was imprisoned in Wano and survived because of the kinstatic.aayyy.com/topic/dn/ess extended to him by the strangers around him. Kaido made sure to make anyone pay if they helped his son avoid any bit of harsh parenting and continued to neglect Yamato’s right to freedom.

5 Charles Zi Brittania - Code Geass: Lelouch Of The Rebellion

Indifferent to the world around him, Charles wasn’t just a bad father to Lelouch but to all of his children despite leading a life full of lies and despair. Even though what Charles sought to do was a better alternative to the kind of world one of his eldest sons Shneizel envisioned, he was still not invested enough in his children to make sure they’d find his vision a world worth living in, too.

Charles never stood up for any of his children and instead focussed solely on his own plans and ambitions. Despite losing a brother to it, he was fine with letting Lelouch and Nunnally suffer and chose to exile them instead of seeking out the one responsible for hurting them.

4 Yujiro Hanma - Grappler Baki

Although he’s the strongest man on Earth, Yujiro suffers from a special kind of boredom that makes him seek out or create his own equal. With nobody strong enough to put him out of his misery or even come close to stopping him from committing atrocities, Yujiro propped up his own sons and made them step up to the task by making sure to traumatize their birth mothers.

Yujiro is immensely selfish and, for the most part, puts in the work when it comes to pulverizing his own sons. He not only beats them mercilessly but also berates them and refuses to share any emotional connection with them unless it furthers his own goal of finally tasting defeat.

3 Shou Tucker - Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood

As jarring as it was when unveiled, the signs were always out there for you to pick up on Shou’s immensely twisted mentality and plans for experimenting on human subjects. In an effort to prove himself right, Shou abandoned his responsibilities as a father and ultimately fell to the wayside by experimenting on his own daughter.

Not only was his daughter one of the loneliest kids out there with only a dog as her companion, but Shou made sure to ruin even that and transmuted both child and pet together to give birth to a talking Chimera.

2 Gambino - Berserk

Jealous of his own kid’s potential, Gambino is perhaps one of the sickest and most well-hated anime characters to ever exist. He neglected his own child in favor of wasting his time drinking his life away. And once he found out that Guts was making a name for himself, Gambino sold off his own son.

It was an event that went on to deeply wound Gut’s mental state and well-being and fueled his anger. Thus, it led to Gambino’s death after a rather sour confrontation. Even before dying, Gambino showed no remorse or guilt over his actions and was aspiring to kill Guts while blaming him for everything that went wrong in his life.

1 Daigo Kagemitsu - Dororo

In his pursuit of power, Daigo went a step too far and willingly sacrificed his firstborn child to ensure his own victory and conquest of Japan. Hyakkimaru went through hell on Earth to retrieve his limbs one by one, but none of that mattered to Daigo.

In fact, Daigo neglected his own wife and chose to let Hyakkimaru’s brother face off against him despite knowing the truth. In the end, there was no monologue of regret or flashbacks explaining any guilt. It was just rage and pride that forced Daigo to accelerate his eventual march towards death.
