"Absolutely Stacked": September 2026 Has Some Of Most Exciting Releases Of The Year, Here They Are Ranked
Bless Grand Theft Auto 6 and it's unbelievable pressure on the entire video game industry, because September 2026 looks like one of the most stacked months for video games we've had in a long time. I have no idea how anyone will be able to play more than one or two of these games in September, so we've broken down the list into what we think might be the best to come.
From the hugely anticipated The Blood of Dawnwalker to a brand-new Silent Hill game, not only are there loads of games, it's also a very, very varied month in terms of genres.
Halloween: The Game
Michael Myers image above scared civilians in Halloween: The Game.8 September 2026
The iconic Michael Myers arrives in Halloween: The Game, an immersive horror sandbox that looks like it might be a quietly surprising pre-Halloween banger, as long as studio IllFonic can stick the landing. IllFonic was the team behind the hugely successful asymmetrical horror game Friday the 13th, which was later removed from Steam due to lawsuits.
However, it does show the team has the pedigree to pull this off, so I definitely think Halloween is one to watch.
Trails In The Sky 2nd Chapter
17 September 2026
Trails In The Sky is not for everyone, but for those who've been eagerly awaiting a follow-up to Nihom Falcom's remake of the sprawling 2004 RPG, Trails In The Sky 2nd Chapter is a big one.
The 1st Chapter received excellent reviews across the board, and is generally considered an excellent old-school JRPG with lots of modern trappings.

29 September 2026
Starting off with a quieter one but nonetheless a game that has people excited, Minecraft Dungeons 2 releases on September 29th. It's a sequel to 2020's Minecraft Dungeons, a Minecraft dungeon-crawler spin-off that attracted a pretty huge audience when it launched and managed to sustain that success with multiple content updates that continued to add extra depth.
It's not considered a pretty competent and technical dungeon-crawler, which makes the release of a sequel even more exciting. If Mojang and Double Eleven can expand on the original, we're in for quite a surprise I think.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4
17 September 2026
I was an enormous fan of the original Dawn of War games, and while I think the series certainly lost its way with 2017's Dawn of War 3, Dawn of War 4 looks a massive return to form at a time when the hype around 40k is at an all-time high.
I previewed this game way back in August 2025, and it has come a long way since then, even though I enjoyed what I saw a lot. It's chunky. It's metal. It's proper 40k.
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave
17 September 2026
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is the next mainline entry in Nintendo's long-running strategy RPG series, launching on Switch 2 on September 17, 2026.
I do not profess to know much about Fire Emblem except that my colleagues absolutely love it and are all very excited about the next iteration in the series, Fortune's Weave.
Honorable mentions: Valheim 1.0 release, Runescape: Dragonwilds 1.0 release, Orbitals
Silent Hill: Townfall

Silent Hill: Townfall is set on the foggy Scottish island of St. Amelia, which hopefully means we get another great Scottish horror game like Still Wakes The Deep.
Townfall is even developed by a Scottish studio, Screen Burn, so I'm hoping for a title that blends classic Silent Hill horror with distinctly Scottish themes like remote coastal landscapes and an ever-present gloominess. Don't worry Scotland, I love you with all my heart.
Control Resonant
24 September 2026
Now we're getting into the big leagues. Control Resonant is Remedy Entertainment's follow-up to the cult classic, Control, which looks set to expand on the supernatural world with an extra emphasis on RPG progression.
Don't worry, I'm sure we will still be able to slam the environment to pieces with telekinetic powers, but we might also see some diverse character builds and new bizarre mysteries to uncover. Resonant seems to take everything Control did and ramp it up 100 percent.
Onimusha: Way Of The Sword

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is Capcom's first Onimusha game in 20 years and with that comes some heavy expectations. Thankfully, this game looks outrageously cool. We covered it last year, discussing the game's excellent parry system, and later did an interview with the team at the Tokyo Game Show.

Armed with an Oni Gauntlet, this samurai goes above and beyond what is humanly possible to combat otherworldly monsters called Genma.
Shoutout here to Phantom Blade Zero, which was originally set to launch in September 2026 but has now been pushed back into October.
The Blood of Dawnwalker
3 September 2026
The Blood of Dawnwalker is developed by Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by veterans of CD Projekt Red including Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who directed The Witcher 3. There are clear parallels between this game and those that came before it, but The Blood of Dawnwalker looks to the world of vampires to keep things juicy and fresh. Hmm.
Already being described by fans as a "vampire Witcher 3", I won't say no to more grim, dark and miserable medieval fantasy. It also goes above and beyond with some interesting mechanics, like a corruption level that impacts how your character interacts with the world. I think there's still a lot more to learn about Dawnwalker in the coming months, and I'm super excited.
Marvel's Wolverine
15 September 2026
It was a tough contest between Dawnwalker and Marvel's Wolverine, but I think Insomniac's next superhero adventure has to take the top spot. We have already covered this game from multiple angles, such as discussing it sort of looks like a pretty run-of-the-mill Marvel game, the funny fact that you can actually die, and some early looks at Jean Grey and Sabretooth. Other characters you can expect to see include Mystique, Omega Red, and Leech.
We've all been waiting a long time for this game, and it's finally here in one of the most stacked months for games in recent memory. I have no idea which one I'm going to choose.
