If you are struggling to understand just who Singularity is, you've come to the right place. We are going to take a look at what and who Singularity is, as well as their connection to Dr. Sigurd. If you have yet to complete Bayonetta 3, this will contain important plot-related spoilers, so proceed with caution.

Singularity And The Homunculi

As mentioned above, Singularity is the creator of the Homunculi, with the ability to control them. Both Singularity and each Homunculi have a listed birthplace, usually involving a production plant. In Singularity's case, it was 'born' at a Bioplant in the Alphaverse.

Within the Alphaverse, we know that Singularity started off as AI technology, as a means to produce artificial body parts. This is found in the description for 'The Crafted Tyrant'.

Eventually, Singularity gained a conscious and destroyed the humans at the facility. Due to Singularity's original purpose of creating body parts, it was able to mass produce Homunculi and completely wipe out all humans in the Alphaverse.

Singularity also gained the power to travel between universes, which it utilized in order to destroy all humans and universes within the Multiverse. Overall, Singularity's purpose is to be in complete control with only one reality in existence: the Alphaverse.

Singularity And Bayonetta

Singularity's main goal is to destroy the Multiverse, and so it travels between universes to do so. Within every universe though, there is a Bayonetta (Arch-Eve) that stands in his way. Bayonetta possesses an immense amount of power, and Singularity wants it, which is why we see Singularity seek out the parallel Bayonettas that appear in the game.

Singularity Forms

There are a few different forms of Singularity that we encounter. The most basic form is the one that looks like Dr. Sigurd.

From here, we have Singularity Chaos. This is a battle-ready version of Singularity that is incredibly large. Bayonetta fights with this version of Singularity, before it transforms into Singularity Balance.

Singularity Balance has the ability to summon Homunculi via a large scroll. In the description for this enemy, we learn that the Balance version is the 'pinnacle of human technological advancement'.

Lastly, we have Singularity Definition. This is the final, and most perfect form of Singularity, which is described to have "purged himself of all impurities and unnecessary information to become one with the chaotic energy of the Multiverse". This is also the final form that we fight in the game that ultimately ends up perishing.

Who Is Dr. Sigurd?

Throughout the course of the game, you are sent on side missions as Jeanne in order to find Dr. Midmyers Sigurd. This is due to Viola, who stated that he would be the key to stopping Singularity.

At the beginning of the game, we see an alternate version of Bayonetta die, while Viola looks on with another person who is that world's Sigurd.

This military Sigurd was the leader of the anti-Singularity resistance from the world that Viola originated from. Due to his involvement, Viola instructs Bayonetta and Jeanne to seek him out, but this is where things go wrong.

In the central universe of the game, Sigurd is known as Dr. Midmyers Sigurd, who is a scientist researching the multiverse. While conducting research, he learned about Singularity's goal and wanted to put this to an end. With his ability to make contact across universes, he reached out to Connor Sigurd, who we mentioned above.

Despite his best efforts to stop Singularity and the Homunculi, Dr. Sigurd was eventually killed. Singularity then took his place. This means that the Dr. Sigurd that you seek out throughout the game is actually Singularity.

So far, that's all we know about Singularity. Now that we know about the existence of the Multiverse though, we may come to learn more about Singularity and the Alphaverse in the future.
